Thanksgiving Day Plans

What are you plans for the holiday?

I was volunteered to host the past 2 years but I got out of it this year somehow.  I am glad I won't have 15 people squeezed into my little house but I am still planning to cook dinner (only about 5 people this time).  EJ only recently started dabbling in solid foods (purees) so I might introduce some sweet potatoe tonight to see how it goes so she can have some on Thanksgiving.

What is everyone else up to? Traveling with baby or hosting any big meals?

Re: Thanksgiving Day Plans

  • Going to my parents. Only half of her kids will be there. One of my brothers and my sister are each going to in-laws. So I'm cooking some, my mom is cooking some and my brother is cooking some. It's nice to spread out the work like that. Since they only live ten minutes away I'm feeling good this year.

  • I remember last year we announced that we were expecting, and then I spent the rest of the time slaving away in the kitchen -- only my sister helped me.  My husband's family is notorious for letting us do all the work and would just pop in from time to time to ask when it would be ready.  A holes.  =)

  • We're staying home and doing a very scaled-back Thanksgiving meal for just DH, DS and myself. Last year was the first year we ever hosted, and I nearly killed myself making a huge meal, even though there were only 5 adults. I'm glad to be doing a much smaller version this year.

My DS has recently been trying solids, also, and sweet potatoes are his favorite so far. I've steamed them and offered them in chunks, and I've also offered them in a puree, and he's liked them both ways. Last week (I think) Token posted a link to a very yummy looking recipe for sweet potatoes, if you're interested in trying BLW at all.

  • We are hosting Thanksgiving this year. My first time hosting Thanksgiving, ever! We're having DH's family, which will make 7 adults and 7 kids. Our house is small, so it will be an adventure! We figured we would host Thanksgiving this year, being this is our last Thanksgiving in this house, we will be moving soon.

  • For the first time in 5 years we are NOT travelling 6 hours to my DH's family.
We are staying put and watching football whilst eating turkey.  Bliss.

  • We're driving about 6 hours to visit DH's parents. His whole extended family is in the same town, so we have an early dinner with his dad's side and a later dinner with his mom's side. (I know.) Then DH, DS, and I go 2 hours away from there to my parents for a weekend visit.
  • Thanksgiving lunch with in-laws.  Then drive 3.5 hours to my parents for extended family Thanksgiving dinner.  Then Sunday (still @ parents) Thanksgiving dinner with the other side extended family.

Count 'em - that's 3 delicious THanksgiving meals!!  We have fabulous families!  Of that I am thankful.

  • Drinking a lot of wine.

Oh, I mean going to my SILs house (~1.5 hr away), where they will likely have to run to a store multiple times before serving the meal at 1 pm. We're bringing potatoes and stuffing (which I'm making tomorrow). What started out as 8 adults and a baby is now 11 adults, 2 toddlers, and a baby. I'm getting anxious just thinking about being around that many people stuffed into one house!

Then driving ~30 mins to my parents place to show off the baby for a few hours before driving back home (~1 hr).
