Hi there -
Last time I talked to my OB about my lack of weight gain and she was kind of "well, you aren't losing weight, so that's good" and that was the end of it...but I'm still kind of concerned.
I started off this pregnancy underweight, and have only gained 11 pounds. I'm 20 weeks now. I know Dr. Luke's book has a much more aggressive weight-gain goal (which can seem quite unrealistic), but even for a singleton pregnancy, I should be up more than 11 pounds at this point.
I eat when I'm hungry, and I eat healthy. I mean, I don't skimp out on butter or ice cream, but I'm fairly satisfied with my 2% milk and eating lots of tomatoes. I do drink an Ensure Plus every now and then, I take my vitamins, and I eat about every 2-3 hours when I'm awake.
I see the MFM today. I don't want to come off as obsessive, but this really concerns me.
Did anyone else have problems gaining weight? Any suggestions?
PS - For the record, I'm 5'3" and started off at 102 this pregnancy. My last pregnancy I started off at 127 and gained a total of 22lbs, with the last 5ish being from pre-eclampsia.
Re: Weight Gain Help
If your OB is not concerned then I wouldn't be either, my OB never gave me a specific number for weight gain, although he had mentioned 25-30 lbs and I gained 40 lbs.
This. I am 5'4" and started out at 126 pounds. I have only gained 20 pounds and I am 31 weeks. My OB is not concerned because the babies are growing as they should.
