FTM Q about the return of AF

So I am 12 weeks 5 days PP now and I still haven't gotten AF back.  I was BF'ing but had been supplementing from day 2 bc of low supply and weaned completely by October 31st.  I did take an HPT last week just to make sure that wasn't a concern and it was negative.  Should I be calling the doc at this point or wait a bit longer?

Re: FTM Q about the return of AF

  • I wouldn't be worried just yet. It takes a LONG time for hormones to get back to normal.

  • I was BF but always supplementing.  The doctor said as long as the baby is taking the breast, stimulation is all that is needed to keep AF away.  I stopped BF at 6 weeks and AF returned at 12 weeks so I would give it some more time.

  • I was combination feeding until 2 months and then started to FF exclusively. Mine came back 4 weeks later.

  • Mine came back before I started supplementing, 2 weeks ago. SO it took over 3 months.

  • Thanks ladies, I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't having some kind of issue since I have seen lots of posts of women who have had it back for a while now.

Yeah, that's crap.  Many women get AF back while BFing, me included.  She showed her ugly face at 8w PP here, despite DS being fed only breastmilk.  If it truly kept it away and kept you from ovulating, doctors wouldn't recommend that you use birth control while BFing.

OP, enjoy every single moment you have free of AF.  You'll want her to go away when she comes back!  If you're worried about how long it's taking, call your doctor and ask.
