Maryland Babies

Pedi Derm Referral

Hi ladies- sorry I haven't been on here in awhile but I could sure use some help!  DD has had chapped cheeks since the end of last December.  Originally, it was blamed on her pacifier so we gave that up in Jan and nothing changed.  Then teething was to blame.  Then it was because DD is a belly sleeper and drools a lot in her sleep.  Then we eliminated eggs from her diet since it seems to crop up at the same time we introduced eggs and that didn't make a lick of difference.  Then in March, we did a childhood allergy blood screen that turned up nada.  We only bathe her 2-3 times per week in order to not dry out her skin, but really, the red chapness is only on her cheeks and nowhere else.  Over the past year, we have tried hydrocortizone, aquaphor, eucerin, california baby, aveeno baby, burts baby bees, you name it and nothing.  DD is not on any medication.  The pedi seems stumped.  At her last visit, we discussed possibly seeing a homeopathic doc as I hate putting all of these chemicals on DD's face.  Pedi thought maybe adding fish oil into DD's diet *might* help but at this time, I'd like to see a derm.

I am hoping that someone might have feedback or names of a pediatric derm in the Towson, Timonium, Hunt Valley, Perry Hall or White Marsh area.  I have Cigna and called DD's pedi office and they gave me 3 names that they often refer to in the area and all 3 are in-network for me:

Mark Lowitt at GBMC (often in top docs in Baltimore mag, mixed reviews online)

Israel Eckman in Towson (pedi office said he can get us in fast, but has no bedside manner, mixed reviews online)

Deborah Englert in Sparks at North Baltimore Derm (mixed reviews online)

Does anyone have any experience with any of these docs (either for pediatric reasons or for themselves)?  Or anyone have a name to suggest?  Sorry to post and run but I will def check back later.  TIA and hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Re: Pedi Derm Referral

  • I have seen dr Lowitt and liked him a lot. I stopped seeing him because I tried to make an appt for my yearly full body scan and they couldn't get me in for 6 more months. I wasn't a new patient either, and I thought that was a ridiculous wait. My MIL sees him too and she likes him a lot.

That being said, I switched to a derm closer to home in Harford county. I am almost sure that dr englert is one of the docs at the practice I go to. If its the same doc I am thinking of, she has seen DD and was great. it makes sense that she would be in Towson also, because one time I had to make DD an appt on a specific day because dr englert was going to be there that day only that week. I think the website of the practice I go to is dermteammd.com, if you want to check to see if it's the same doc.

  • Deborah Englert is the same one that works out of a Bel Air office too.  Thanks Meg for letting me know she was good with your DD!  I will definitely be calling for an appt with her!
