Happy Tuesday Everyone! We're rolling right along this week. Welcome and thanks for chiming in to: MeganS, Hoping4more and DCMetro - hope your stay on bed rest is short but successful! Amye - hope all is going well with you...
Now onto the exciting and thought-provoking questions of the day (LOL)...
1. How did you tell your significant other you were pregnant?
2 . What's one reason you would prefer a vaginal delivery? How about a ceserean?
3. Does your significant other intend to cut the umbilical cord?
4. Updates & Vents
Keep your feet up, keep hydrated, keep the blood pressure down...ok, that's enough with the orders. How about we just try to stay sane one more day and let the rest fall into place. Have a great one...looking forward to hearing all your updates. ![]()

Re: Daily Bed Rest Check-In (Tues) 11/22/11
1. How did you tell your significant other you were pregnant?
We did IVF, so we were together waiting for the call from the nurse after my bloodtest. I somehow managed to keep myself from POAS until the actual blood test. It was a nerve-wracking but ultimately really happy day!
2 . What's one reason you would prefer a vaginal delivery? How about a ceserean?
I would prefer vaginal mostly to have an easier recovery. After having to spend half my pregnancy on bedrest, it would be nice to not have activity restrictions after birth as well!
3. Does your significant other intend to cut the umbilical cord?
I will have to ask him about that! We really haven't discussed anything about the birth - we are too busy trying to keep it from happening too soon!
4. Updates & Vents
Nothing much to say today. I have a dr appt and cervical check tomorrow - trying not to think about it too much.
1. How did you tell your significant other you were pregnant?
Great story - I was actually being put on the pill to jump start AF since I have PCOS. The doctor said before I take it to make sure I do a pregnancy test. Turns out I wasn't having a 90+ day cycle just a miracle baby! I tested before we left for work that morning. And then tested again at the office. Kept coming back positive.
2 . What's one reason you would prefer a vaginal delivery? How about a ceserean?
Vaginal - no stitches easier recovery. Ceserean - 2 extra weeks of STD.
3. Does your significant other intend to cut the umbilical cord?
I think so but he is to stay by my head as much as possible.
4. Updates & Vents
Spoke with the peri this morning and she gave me the go ahead to attend Thanksgiving with DH's family. My bp numbers have been low enough and as long as I am not the one cooking it shouldn't be an issue. Now to remind my husband's uncle to bring pertussis vaccines for everyone (he's everyone's primary care physician).
1. How did you tell your significant other you were pregnant? I normally travel for work, so I waited until I was home for the test, even though I was sure that I was pregnant. No big moment, I took the test and we looked at it together.
2 . What's one reason you would prefer a vaginal delivery? How about a ceserean? I want a natural birth from the beginning and still prefer as little medical intervention as possible. At this point, whatever is best at the time will be my preference. No reason to try and plan for things that are clearly beyond my control.
3. Does your significant other intend to cut the umbilical cord? No, with all the worries of early birth, he wants to leave everything to the pros and stay out of the way.
4. Updates & Vents Beginning steroids tomorrow at 24 weeks.
1. How did you tell your significant other you were pregnant?
As far as he knew, I had my period (which turned out to be implantation bleeding) so when I came downstairs to meet him on the couch for coffee, he casually said "good morning, how are you?" to which I replied just as casually, "Good morning, I'm pregnant." We were cautiously optimistic as the last time I was pg was 3 years ago and ended in m/c.
2 . What's one reason you would prefer a vaginal delivery? How about a ceserean?
I agree with 3citygirl - vaginal for the quicker recovery time and c-section for being able to "get out of" labor!
3. Does your significant other intend to cut the umbilical cord?
DH wants to do it - so I say, go for it!!
4. Updates & Vents
Cervix is down to 2.1 (from 3.0 last week) and MFM said he's not concerned. HUH?? I thought we were concerned about anything < 2.5 and he said, that is when I was 25 weeks. Now that I'm 33w, I can go into labor and he isn't worried. Ummm, OK. But he did say absolutely no activity until 37 weeks, so there goes my brilliant idea to start doing light housework in 2 weeks. LO is still breech and MFM says chances of him flipping at this point are 5-10% so it's looking more and more like a ceserean delivery. I've had well over a thousand contractions to this point so I guess its just as well that I miss out on that part of labor. They keep getting stronger every week; I can't imagine what labor is actually like!
Hope everyone gets great reports from their docs this week...
Lisa
Thanks!
1. How did you tell your significant other you were pregnant?
I bought diapers and a binki and bottles and gave him a happy fathers day gift including a pregnancy test! We also had baby carrots and baby sized portions for dinner and dessert was baby cupcakes he didn't really catch on he just thought it was a joke! It was great.
2 . What's one reason you would prefer a vaginal delivery? How about a ceserean?I would like to stay as close to natural as I can so I would love a vaginal delivery. I will do a c-section if its what's best for the baby and I. 3. Does your significant other intend to cut the umbilical cord?Yes! but he is secretly totally freaked out about it! ha 4. Updates & VentsI have a doc apt today hoping they might take me off bed rest which I highly doubt will happen! ha I would also love to find out if I have progressed. I really don't want any bad news! I can't wait to see our little man on the big screen today! As for vents: My mother-in-law is a freaking nut! I really dislike her at this time! She wont work with my mom or do what I want for my baby shower!! She wont let me have cupcakes or a dinosuar theme she wont let my mom make the banner instead she bought one. She choose the colors after asking me what I wanted and then telling me she didn't like those colors so she was picking her own. She then got extremely pissed off at me because I couldn't come see everyone and play with the kids because I'm on bed rest. She was mad because I could not make anything for thanksgiving dinner. She is also upset because my mom gets more "attention" from us... well sorry but I LIVE WITH HER! Ugh mother-in-laws!1. How did you tell your significant other you were pregnant?
I ran out to his vehicle when he got home to show him the positive pregnancy test. He was VERY confused at first because he thought it was an OPK test, and couldn't figure out why I had taken one when I was expecting my period! Once he caught on, we drove to town so I could get a digital test which was very positive!
2 . What's one reason you would prefer a vaginal delivery? How about a ceserean?
My first choice is actually a c section. I've had multiple surgeries and know I can deal with post surgical discomfort pretty well. I vaginal delivery makes me a lot more worried because I don't want to end up with damage that makes me endometriosis pain worse post childbirth.
3. Does your significant other intend to cut the umbilical cord?
He would like to, although it's not something he will be devestated about if he can't do.
4. Updates & Vents
It's getting so hard to breathe! I feel like the babies have completely taken over my abdomen and are trying to move into my lungs. Just getting out of bed to use the washroom is challenging and results in me needing my puffer, or to sit for a while to catch my breath. I'm also rather bummed since DH found my first stretch mark yesterday. I knew I would likely end up with them, but I'm still sad.
1. How did you tell your significant other you were pregnant?
We found out at exactly the same time. I got PG very quickly after going off BC, during a month when we were "not not" trying. My period was late but I didn't think I was PG because I had had 3 BFNs. I took one more test just for the heck of it, and set it on the bathroom counter to process. We both went in and looked at the same time. My words? "Oh, shut UP!"
2 . What's one reason you would prefer a vaginal delivery? How about a ceserean?
I would prefer a vaginal delivery for the shorter, hopefully less painful recovery. I would prefer a caesarean for the lessened trauma to my girly bits, LOL.
3. Does your significant other intend to cut the umbilical cord?
He still hasn't decided. He is very squeamish about blood and the birth process, so I have always planned for him to be up near my head the whole time. However, when I explained to him how cutting the cord works (i.e., how much they "idiot-proof" it for dads), he acted a little more interested. I am just leaving it totally up to him.
4. Updates & Vents
I had an internal exam by necessity on Sunday evening, and another transvaginal ultrasound today. Although my cervix has thinned to 0.4 cm, I still to be holding fast at 1 cm dilated. Hopefully this bodes well for the next couple of weeks! I hit 34 weeks tomorrow!
