    What about a netbook?  DD loves hers and it isn't as pricey as a laptop. 

    Otherwise my go-to gifts for older kids are itunes gift cards and magazine subscriptions (maybe sports ones?).

    A membership to gamefly

    A magazine subscription

    A tablet (vs a laptop)

    iTouch accessories,docking station or itunes gift cards (if his dad gets it for him)

    Around 13, my nephew begged for a ripstick.  They are pretty cool, if he doesn't have one already.  Does he have a bball goal?  Also, what gaming system does he have?  H and my nephews are getting the new Zelda for the Wii for sure.
