POLL - WDYD, pets and Christmas cards

When you "sign" your Christmas cards, do you include your dogs/cats?

I say "sign" b/c I know a lot of us use photo cards where the signature is already printed on the card.

So it would look like this:

"Merry Christmas from the X family,

John, Sarah, Conner and Fido"

We have always added our dog (once he was a part of our family in 2005) and we still do.  Curious what others do.

Re: POLL - WDYD, pets and Christmas cards

  • We have always had cats, like ever since I was little and have never signed any card from the pets.  Not with my mom and dad and not with my little family unit now.

    I wouldn't say it's weird, per se, I just don't do it.

  • If your pet(s) are included in any of the pictures on the card - yes.

    Otherwise, no.

  • If we have them preprinted, then yes they are included.  If I have to hand sign them, then only to close family who know them do they get included.  My hand would hurt too much to write out -  Merry Christmas - DH, Me, DSS, DSD, L, C, A, A, S.

  • When we hand sign cards, Nellie is added, otherwise, I assume she's part of the J family :)

  • We used to do Christmas cards with pics of our dogs until DH decided we were becoming "those people". We made an agreement not to do photo cards until we have a baby; until then, it's the old school folded kind! I don't sign the dogs' names in those (well, not in all of the cards anyway).

  • I don't even think I put the kids names on the cards last year.  I write them all by hand and four names is just too much.

  • We've only done cards a few times and I wanted to include a pic of our cat and would have included his name too, but DH is adamant that we don't. Sour puss.

     This.  I voted SS.

  • We usually include our pets in our photo but we don't sign their names.

Same  here, sort of.  I don't think it's weird when I get cards signed with the family dogs' names.  But if someone sent a card signed from the family cat, I'd think that a little weird.  I know that's hypocritical and dumb, but I just feel that way, not sure why!  I guess because dogs just ACT like a member of the family, and cats just act like, well... snooty cats who "couldn't be bothered with the rest of you people!"

(Again, I'm a cat mommy and love cats!  But this is how I see that whole family dynamic...)

Same.  Before we had kids, the dog's name was included in our signature.  We've always had a cat (or 2 or 3) and have never had the cat's name on the card.

Now that we have kids, no pet names at all, though.  I only have so much space to work with.  Wink

  • We haven't yet, but that's not to say we won't. For me, I guess it would depend on the type of card I'm sending. I've always sent traditional cards, and I usually sign The OurLastNames, which I think includes him.  Now, if we did photo cards, it would depend on whether or not he was in the photo. I have a feeling next Christmas will be our first photo card, and I will try to get him in the picture. If were successful, his name will probably be on it. I think not having his name while he's in the picture would be weird.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.
