High-Risk Pregnancy

Possible pre-e, can I join you guys?

My OB told me he's worried I might have pre-e.  I saw him on Friday, my BP is up and there was protein in my urine.  He sent me for labs, 24-hr urine collection, and bed rest.  I start BPPs once a week,  my first one is Tuesday.  He didn't tell me anything else, just that they won't diagnose me until all the lab stuff comes back. He did say I'll probably be on bed rest until the end and there's a decent chance they'll induce early.  For now I'm just trying to relax and watch my sodium.  Anyone have more info on what I should be doing or expect?  TIA!

Re: Possible pre-e, can I join you guys?

  • I was monitored for Pre-e from 15 weeks on, after a my blood pressure spiked and spilled some protein..  I did the 24 hour urine collection so many times.  I was on modified bedrest, but never bedrest. I never developed full on pre-e, and I was induced after my water broke without going into labor(not pre-e related. I was just 39 weeks).  Anyway, I can't add much, but just rest, keep your feet up, and keep track of all the symtoms(vision changes comes to mind, but I know there are others--oh, swelling, too).  Hang in there!

  • I was diagnosed pre-e on Nov 17th and have been on hospital bed rest since. We are trying to deliver as late as possible, as I am only 31 weeks, but have to watch my bp, protein and platelet levels. My case is unusal as it developed very quickly. It sounds like your OB is doing everything he can, and is really watching.

Keep your blood pressure down as much as possible by laying around on your left side.  That's pretty much all you can do. You will know way more once your labs come in!  :)

  • sadly there is not much you can do besides take it easy and pray if you believe in it! I delivered my daughter at 29 weeks and 5 days due to pre-e. I was told on Wednesday that I didn't have it yet but would and was hospitalized on saturday, delivered on the next Wednesday. However it is pretty rare for it to develop so early. But I just have to say be very proactive in your care watch out for swelling, head aches, dizziness, upper abdominal pain, changes in vision and take BP readings whenever you can. Most of all listen to your instinct and when in doubt call the doctor that is why they are paid the big bucks! I am not sure how far along you are and I don't mean to scare you, me and my baby are both totally fine! We just had a long NICU stay!
