I've heard so many conflicting things. I've that Oing late is bad b/c it can effect egg and lining quality, and I've also heard (from my RE and a natural family planning expert) that it makes no difference b/c the egg and lining just start developing later with later ovulation.
Pre-DS, I had pretty clock-work cycles 29-30 days with ovulation on CD 17 or 18, which I guess is still lateish. I know I conceived DS on CD 18. In the 2 years worth of cycles since I got AF back ,fertilityfriend.com says my "average" O day is CD20 (granted I had some really long cycles right after weaning that are probably throwing the average off...I O'd on like CD28 my first PP cycle). I'd say anything The earliest I've ever O'd was CD 16. My one clomid cycle I O'd on CD17. I'm not sure what it is with my body or why it takes awhile to get geared up. I supposedly have DOR, but typically women nearing menopause O earlier in their cycle rather than later. I love the cycles when I O earlier b/c it's less time sitting around waiting to O. I mean today is CD 13 and nothing is going on yet. I'm kinda jealous of women who can be almost "done" for the month at this point.
Any insight? What have you heard about Oing late?
Re: Let's talk about late ovulation.
Well I think it matters whether you O late "naturally" or O late while on a stimmed cycle. I don't O ever non-medicated so for me, when I O late on stims it's because something isn't right. My dosages aren't right or I'm not responding well - and so my egg, which started "on time" is now stalled and that's not good. For the woman who O's on her own and typically O's post CD 14 then I don't think there's an issue with egg quality per se unless you're looking at CD 60+ and that's only anecdotal based on what I've seen/heard from PCOS ladies.
I think it's fair to ask these questions of your doctor though - I mean I don't understand why lining would develop late, in fact, I really don't think that's true at all. Your lining starts thickening as soon as your estrogen starts going up and that's basically right away...but as long as it doesn't get "too thick" to impede implantation that would be fine. So, to sum up
I don't think it's that big of a deal - an average O of CD 20 just makes your cycle 34 days long. An extra week -- that's not too bad but I'd go ahead and ask your RE that you're concerned about egg quality and that what he says conflicts with what you've heard elsewhere.

While I agree that it matters whether you O late naturally or stimmed, I'm here with evidence that late Oing is not all bad. My DD (who is practically perfect in every way
) was conceived as a result of a CD68 ovulation. My LMP had begun on January 1st, and on April 20th I had an U/S showing 7 weeks gestation. AF never showed in that time. Go figure!
P.S. Yes, I have PCOS.
