Baby Names

Max?

DH and I are having a hard time settling on a boy name.  I liked Reid/Reed and he liked Ryder or Gage, but I don't love Ryder or Gage and he doesn't love Reid, so we instead of continuing to debate names both of us don't love we started over.

I usually am not a nickname person, but we both like the name Max a lot.  He suggests Maximus, but I don't love that, but I love Max.  I think Maxwell could grow on me, but it seems crazy to name my son a name I don't love and plan on calling him a nickname.  Thoughts?  Could we just name him Max?  Any other ideas?

Re: Max?

  • I know kids named just plain Max. It is an adorable name!

  • LOVE the name Max, but I have two in school this year (both short for Maxwell) and know of quite a few more that are preschool age. It might just be a regional thing though!

  • Max is just fine on its own. I had the same issue with loving the name Xander but, hating Alexander.
  • I have a cousin named Max and a cousin named Alex. Nothing wrong with going short and sweet!

  • My son's name is Maxwell, but everyone calls him Max.  DH and I joke that we are saving calling him Maxwell for when he's in trouble as a teen.  Lol.

  • I think Max is a fantastic name, but just to warn you, it's VERY popular. There was a post not too long ago on the 3rd tri board asking what the girls were naming their sons and the #1 boy name was Max.

  • Max (just Max, not Maxwell) is SO's name, so I am partial to it :) I also think it ages well.

  • I love Max, but do generally think it is best as a nn for Maxwell (even if you never call him Maxwell).  I think it is getting insanely popular and is also a common dog's name so for that reason I would hesitate.

What about Leo?  I think Leo is similar to Max, but is a stronger "full name" if that makes sense.  I have a nephew named Leo and I just love it.

Others that you might like: Grant, Brooks, Pierce, Dean, Nolan

My DH really liked Ryder last time around and I just didn't love it.  I always hear in my head "ride her" which obviously creates some negative associations.   We ended up naming him Pierce.  He was *almost* named Owen.

  • My ExH was Maximillion and I really like it. I think Max by itself works great too.
