How many should I get? I got a package of newborn diapers and a package of size 1 last week for a steal at CVS (with coupons).
I opened them last night (it was a OMG...there's DIAPERS in my house moment). The newborn (Pampers Swaddlers) didn't have the belly button cut out (should I be worried?).
Is a package enough to start with and try or should I get more? We live about 30 miles from the local stores so I'm a little more concerned. But yet don't want to stock up until we know what will work out okay.
Re: Repeated Diaper Question...
I have 2 packages of newborn and the rest are size 1's simply because I know I will use those. I'm however not opening the newborn ones until she is born because if they are too small than I want to be able to exchange them. Luckily the hospital gives us diapers while we are there so I will know if I need them or not.
Since you are so far away I'd go ahead and maybe get 2 packs of newborn since it's not convenient for you to just go to the store. Not sure about the belly button question though. I hadn't thought of that to be honest.
SD would sob every time her diaper even got a little damp so I would definitly stock up on some more! You'll be amazed by just how many diapers you go through in a day...when I first got her she was goign through 6-8 a day and she wasn't a little bitty baby anymore.
We just went and straight up bought size 1 diapers for LO- Pampers seem to run a little tight and we had leakage issues with that but it was easily remedied by moving up a size...I don't suggest Huggies at all- We had way too many blowouts with them and while they have the best coupons/deals it wasn't worth messing with..it wasn't user error-the Pampers just really fit better-plus they're alot thinner and look cuter underneath outfits ( I know lame but its important to me!).
I wouldn't worry too much about the newborn notch- if its an issue just snip the diaper with a pair of scissors for a more comfortable fit. At this point we have 2 packages newborn diapers and over 6 cases size 1's and 2 cases size 2's.
The Pampers website says that both the Swaddlers and the Swaddlers Sensitives have the umbilical cord cut out, but only in the NB size. If you have Pampers Swaddlers, it would be odd if yours didn't have it. Maybe check again?
I received one jumbo package of the NB size at one of my showers. I am not going to buy any more of the NB size until I know for sure how big LO is. Like PP, I did buy an extra package of size 1 because I know I will use those.
Notch is nice, but you can always fold down.
For a few weeks, most newborns will poop every time that they eat, and eat around every two hours, so you go through a LOT of diapers.
DS was fairly big- 8lb 12oz- but we still used NB sized for at least one big box, and maybe one more after that before we switched to cloth (or during the transition... Its a blur). Using NB or going straight to 1s seems to be baby shape based, as is brand preference- we got our blowouts in pampers.
Also, amazon is nice for fast free shipping and decent prices is you do amazon mom + subscribe and save (you can cancel after one shipment).
That's what I thought!!!!! Maybe I don't know what I'm looking for---I thought it would be pretty self-explaintory? I researched diapers before I bought. When I opened them they are all straight across in the front though.... Very weird. Maybe it's just a FTM thing
Cameron has been using pampers swaddlers (preemie size) which don't have the cut out. We just folded the top part of the diaper down before taping it shut and it was fine.
and after 82 days in the NICU, our little girl is home!
I've been eying ordering from Amazon. I have lots of allergies to products and have been nervous to stock up until I know LO is going to be okay in Pampers... I LOVE the fact I can order them to my door...one less thing to worry about! They have some good prices too! I got them for 9 cents a diaper last week at CVS and I think I'm going to buy a box tonight for 14 cents a diaper tonight. I think that's pretty good?
I've been getting mine for about 16-19 cents a piece. So the prices you are getting sound amazing!
Our daughter was allergic to the pampers swaddlers, they left her whole diaper area red. They have a scent to them. I'd suggest Huggies Naturals if you have sensitive skin, she probably will too.
Warning: Long reply--I posted this to another similar question a while back. But hopefully it is helpful!
When I was pregnant with DD, I asked around to my "mommy" friends on what diapers they liked the best, and also requested some samples when I could. In the end, I heard the best things about Pampers (swaddlers and cruisers, not the baby dry ones) so I decided to be on the lookout for deals with those.
About 4 months before DD was born, we hit the jackpot on a sale at our local grocery chain where if you purchased $25 worth of P&G products (including pampers swaddlers/swaddlers sensitive and cruisers), you got a $15 coupon towards your next purchase. Plus, the store had them on sale for $8.99 per pack and had a $1 coupon machine right next to them. So, we ended up buying about 45 packs over the course of that week and just kept rolling the $15 coupon we got towards the next purchase. All together, we spent around $125 for 45 jumbo packs of high quality, swaddlers sensitive diapers. It was awesome. We did not need to buy any diapers for the first 8 months of DD's life, and even now still have some of the larger size cruisers (5 and 6) stored away for when she needs them. Of course, every baby is different, but these diapers were great and I had no problems with them at all.
Now, I consider under 10 cents per diaper for pampers a good price for sizes NB, 1, and 2, and anything under 15 cents per diaper a good price for the other sizes.
Here is the breakout of the sizes I bought, but keep in mind that every baby is different and it's hard to know what you will need. Generally, newborns go through around 10 diapers per day, and that slows down to 6-8 per day as they get older.
DD was exactly 7 lbs at birth, and was 22 lbs at her first birthday.
Size NB swaddlers: 4 packs (we still have 2 packs left)--she wore these for the first 6 weeks and we got some from the hospital as well
Size 1 swaddlers: 10 packs (she wore these for about 3 months)--we had a few more from shower gifts too
Size 2 swaddlers: 10 packs (she wore these for about 3 months)
Size 3 cruisers: 10 packs (she wore these for about 5 months)
size 4 cruisers: 8 packs (she wore these the longest, about 9 months)--I really wish I had stocked up more on this size
size 5 cruisers: 8 packs (she is just moving into this size now, at 28 lbs, 36.5 inches, and 29 months old)--She has worn these for almost as long as the size 4's and I am ordering about a case every 4 weeks from Amazon
size 6 cruisers: 3 packs

Harry fit in to the preemie diapers (Pampers) at the hospital. We don't have any at the house and the NB ones work just fine.
I was paranoid about buying too many NB size diapers. I had 2 smaller packs and 3 larger ones, and I know I'll need more before Harry outgrows them!
Even with the little cutout we still ended up folding the diapers over until his cord fell off.

One of our stores did something similar to that but with huggies so I have quite a few of them as opposed to pampers at this point. When you say packs though how many was in a pack? I have packs that range from 33 to 234 for the boxes.
These were the jumbo packs--so somewhere in betwen 32-42 diapers per pack. This was in 2009, and I've noticed that pampers has reduced the # of diapers in each pack by a few since then.
