"Jane Doe" and "John Smith" are married. Jane goes by "Doe-Smith." John has a child with the last name "Smith" and Jane has a child with ex's last name, "Baker." How do I address this card? I feel like if I say "The Smith Family" it leaves Jane's child out. Should I just put everyone's first names...? (The "Doe's" are my bio-family, not the Smith's).
Also, Jane's sister, "Betty" is married and goes by "Doe-Black." Can I write Mr. & Mrs. Black...?
I hate blended families when it comes to writing cards!
Re: Card ettiquette (darn last names!)
John Smith and Jane Doe-Smith and family or Mr. & Mrs. John Smith and family is how I would handle the first. Second would be Mr. & Mrs. Black or separate out as before.
DD -- 5YO
DS -- 3YO
-Jane Doe and Family
-Mr. and Mrs. Black
Eta sorry for all the typos. New phone and baby is waking up.
I hyphenated my name, and it irks me (not too bad) when I get stuff that's addressed Mr. and Mrs. Smith. When I am out places and if I feel I can make a light hearted joke about it I will say 'its Mrs. Doe-Smith, Mrs. Smith is my mother-in-law.'
If I was addressing the cards formally I would write:
Mr. John Smith
Mrs. Jane Doe-Smith
Master Junior Smith
Miss Janeschild Baker
(all on different lines)
If informally I would have:
John Smith
Jane Doe-Smith
and family
Or even more informally:
John, Jane and the Kids
