Rolling over!

Last week I was reading 'what to expect the first year' and under the 2 month development heading it said a baby could possibly roll over at this stage. LO was 5 weeks and for a laugh, I put him down and my wife and I watched in disbelief as he rolled over! We figured it was a fluke but then last night during tummy time he rolled over again! 3 times! 2 to the left and 1 to the right!  And this morning he just keeps on going.. Crazy.

Re: Rolling over!

  • at this age it is a reflex, not the actual milestone of rolling over.  it is more of a fluke--they don't usually do it until 3-4 months.

  • interesting.  A reflux?  My pedi didn't seem to think so.  We just got back from a weight check and I told her about it and she put him on his belly and he rolled over!  She said she wasn't too surprised, thinking back on how he was 'standing' at his one month appointment.

  • yes, a reflex.  they don't usually have the strength or coordination to roll until 3-4 months.  but i guess there is always the exception.  you will know if he continues to do it or if he stops and then doesn't do it again until he is a little bigger.

  • ha!  I wrote 'reflux'  as you can ascertain, I am more preoccupied by his gas 'problem' than his rolling over ;)

  • Lilah's been rolling over consistently (every day, multiple times) since 3 weeks.  Our pedi said she's an over-achiever and is doing it ahead of schedule.

This.  My little guy has been doing this since 18 days, consistently.

  • My theory on this is that pediatricians realize it's a reflex when it happens early (DD has been doing it since 2.5 weeks), but they let parents think they have overachieving children because it makes parents feel good.

Just my two cents.  I certainly could be wrong.

  • DD rolled over when she was super fussy @ 3 weeks but nothing since then

  • The reflex roll over and an intentional roll over look very different, I've seen both.

This. Lo has been rolling over since the day she was born and my pedi made the same comment about it that she made about the fact that baby girl has been doing push ups since 2 weeks and when I called the pedi out on it she admitted she doesn't like to upset the parents and most of them argue that their kid is just advanced and she's wrong so she has learned to let it go.
