December 2011 Moms

Might be a dumb FTM question...(MP)

but do you usually lose your MP before going into labor?  I'm nearing the end of the road and I haven't lost mine, that I know of.  I guess it's always possible that I could have during one of the million times I have to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.  I don't even turn the light on.  Anyone with experience?

  • From what I've heard from other moms, the loss of it could be undetected as it just "wears away" rather than "popping out" noticeably.  So maybe that's what is happening?

  • With DD, I lost mine all at once at 37 weeks (looked like a slug). This time around, I think I started losing mine a few days ago but it's exiting as just increased discharge. A friend of mine had her baby in July and didn't lose her MP until she was 10 hours into her labor.

So it really can happen at any time, and that's why most will say the presence of your MP doesn't mean much in terms of labor and delivery.

  • I didn't notice with my last pregnancy that I lost mine.  I think it is different for everyone.

  • Some loose theirs early, I guess it grows back. I didn't loose mine the first time, until I was actually in labor. Once I lost it, I was ready to go to the hospital.

  • I didnt lose mine with DS until I was well into labor-- like 24 hours into labor. I had my bloody show and MP all at once and I started pushing like 2 hours later.
