My birthday is Friday and I'm thinking about upgrading to a new phone instead of presents. I have an old iPhone and it's so slow...it really sucks. However, I have speakers and stuff to go with it so I'm considering another iPhone. I can't decide if it's worth an extra $100 for the 4S instead of just 4. Any opinions?
If you have a different smartphone that you love, what is it and why do you like it? (I have ATT if that matters.)
So, if I get a new phone what kind should I get? If I decide not to get a new phone, what should I get for my bday? (I told DH not to worry about presents since we're saving up but he's not gonna let that happen. I might as well get something good instead of something random he might pick.)

DH and i just got the HTC sensation, which runs android. there are lots of different HTC models for att (we're on t-mobile), and we really love it. HTCs run HTC sense on top of android, which lets you link all the social media stuff with your contacts. for instance, i have austinbride06 in my phone and linked her facebook and twitter info so it all comes up when i pull up her name. htc sense also lets you customize a home screen rather than a bunch of apps when you turn the phone on.
fwiw, some of my siblings have the iphone 4 and 4s. the screen resolution is nicer (by a hair) than my htc, but actual screen size is smaller. my phone runs pretty quickly too - very little lag when you swipe/switch screens or leave one app to open another. i heard the 4s has some battery issues but that should be resolved soon with a software update. oh, and the camera on the htc's are pretty nice - 8 megapixels and has filters already programmed in if you want that instagram look or whatnot.
Three Words: Amazon's Black Friday - check that out for sure!
I have an Android and really love it - a lot of the features that just came out on the iPhone 4S were already available on Android. Minus Siri, of course. BUT.. I'll say, if you are an Apple person and have all the accessories, and perhaps Macs/iPads at home - its not really worth the switch. Apple's integration is now on par and maybe better than Google's.
I just upgraded to my first smartphone - the iPhone 4. It's great - and DH is jealous b/c he has the first ever iPhone - I think it's a 3? Mine is super fast and the camera (it has a flash now!) is really pretty good. I'm a newbie for this smartphone stuff, but I just wanted to say that the 4 is pretty nice (and we were eligible for an upgrade on our AT&T contract so the phone was $100 - the 4s would have been $200 I believe).
Mine was kinda an emergency purchase b/c my old school slider dumbphone crapped out on me and DH had too many freak-outs when he could not get in touch w/ his pregnant wife so he insisted I finally get a smartphone. It was not in the budget at all, but the 4 was good enough for now. Plus, I'm not really sure how much the 4s has over the 4 at this point, but ignorance is bliss.
I just upgraded from the Iphone3 which SUCKED, it was soooooo slow! In the end (after a year) hardly anything worked on it. I thought about the Iphone 4, because I could have gotten it for around $100, but decided against it. I was tempted by the 4s, Siri, but I'm just way too cheap.
I got the new Motorola Atrix 2! I super puffy heart love it. It is crazy fast(4G), has a great camera (with flash), and video camera, voice commands, tons of free Apps on the Android market. The screen is much bigger than my old Iphone (and much better resolution too). I haven't found anything about it that I don't like so far. Oh it also has a front facing camera- for Skyping or video calling if you are interested in that.
ETA- oh and the Atrix 2 is only $80 with an AT&T upgrade.
