Good age for Elf on a Shelf?

I'd been planning on doing this next year b/c I thought he was too young to get it this year, but now I'm starting to think he might "get it" this year, at least partially.  What age did you start?  Do you think Mark is still too young?

We got it this year (actually Christopher Pop-in-kins because the elf on the shelf creeps me out) and I think he will enjoy looking for it but I don't know he will quite get it.

I was wondering the same thing.  I was going to wait until next year too.  I really don't think Nicholas will get it now.

We're doing it this year and Stella turned 2 in Sept.  I think she'll really get into it and am excited to introduce the whole idea to her.

I just got it for DD and she named it Thomas! I read the book with her and she sort of got it.

Even if she doesn't completely understand it, we are having fun finding Thomas in his hiding place in the mornings, so for us its been totally worth it.

I say go for it!!!

I'm actually planning on getting the christopher popinkins (I agree..the elf on the shelf is ca-reeepy!) for DS this year...he's amazing at spotting animals everywhere, so I think he'll at least have fun looking for the elf with me each day.  (We walked into the dairy section of the grocery yesterday and he started mooing..took me a while to find the cows he had spotted....ha!)

Yeah, this is what my MIL got for the girls too.  I think he's better for the little ones.

Katie is the same age and I am doing it this year for her.  I think she is going to LOVE it! We have been reading the book to her and she is excited.  I don't think she quite gets that he reports back to Santa but I know she will like looking for him every morning.

We started ours when DS just turned 2.  He really didn't get it at the time.  He just turned 3 and really got it, and got excited.  He is now almost 6 and looks forward to him visiting.

We did it this year. So much fun! The girls named it Dopey-O. They rush around every morning looking for him and enjoy the story that goes with it.

We are starting it this year and I know DD is going to love it.  Will she understand everything about it, probably not.  But I think she will get that he works for Santa and that she has to be good because he is watching.  We'll see....

I got Christina Popinkins mostly for Katen this year but Ana really gets into it too actually. Our elf has asked them to contribute to food pantry, etc and for sure Katen understands that part. Ana not so much, but she gets the whole "find the elf in the morning" thing and enjoys it. The girls are almost 4 and almost 2.

We did it last year right after Reagan turned 2 and she LOVED it.  She named her elf Jeff, and she would look all over for him every single morning.  I cannot wait to bring back Jeff this year--so, so much fun!
