Hi ladies. I've got a couple of things going on with DD, and just wanted to get your opinions and advice.
1. DD switched over to whole milk after her 1-year checkup, and has taken to it fine. We also switched over to the sippy cup only for both milk and water. She is fine using the sippy cup for both - she's just not drinking nearly as much milk as she was with the bottle. When she was using the bottle, she would drink probably 20-24 oz of milk per day, plus whatever food she ate. Now she is drinking maybe 8-12 oz of milk per day. She's eating a whole lot more food, so I'm not concerned about her being hungry, I'm just concerned that she's not drinking as much milk as the general range for her age. Our pedi says 16-24 oz at this age. I am giving her yogurt every day, to try to make up the drop in milk she's drinking. Would you be concerned about this, or is it pretty normal? What was your experience?
2. Totally unrelated - all of a sudden DD absolutely hates taking a bath. She hated it as a newborn, then she got ok with it around 3 months, and now in the last month or so, she just hates it. I'm wondering if it is because we don't bathe her enough - we only give her a bath about once or twice a week. She has toys in the bath that she used to like to play with, but she's not interested in them now - she just wants to get out. As soon as she's out of the tub, she's fine. Is this also normal at this age? She's just over a year.
TIA!
Amy
Re: Would you be concerned about either of these?
i wouldn't worry about either. it took max awhile to get used to his milk and now he can't get enough:) if she's getting enough to eat i wouldn't worry...i think its pretty normal.
same for the second, it's probably just a phase:) max went through a little period where he hated getting his hair washed, now he's over it!
I wouldn't be too awfully concerned about the milk. I do remember, though, making sure to give DS a sippy between meals once or twice a day, to help up his intake. He had weight-gain issues though, so I was really trying to get him to drink the recommended amt of milk. Not sure I really needed to worry about it as much as I did though.
I don't know what to tell you about the baths, we have always bathed DS just about every night (we'll skip 1-2 nights a week, usually) and he's always been great about it since about 4mo old. But he has also always been in preschool/daycare, which is why I feel like I've got to "wash the funk" off him at the end of the day! Again, probably not that big of a deal, but in our experience the more we expose him to something regularly, the quicker he gets over any anxiety about it.
When 3 Became 4
I wouldn't worry about either. My oldest has never had more than maybe 10-12 oz of milk a day. Ever. She is like me and just doesn't drink much liquid. As long as she's healthy and gaining weight, I wouldn't be concerned.
Baths have also been a love/hate relationship for my oldest as well. At one point we had to basically sponge bathe her b/c of her fear. (Flat out bloody murder, frantic screaming for her life type fear of the bath.) It comes and goes when they are little and they eventually outgrow it all together.
