Has anyone else been having serious issue with the target website being slow and showing you the "oops" page often?
We didn't register with Target for our wedding because of all the negative things I had heard about their registry but with no other options in our current town we decided to register there for our baby shower. However we have had nothing but problems.
We were blessed with an incredible shower on Saturday with several friends and family members coming. We left the shower with almost everything we need for baby and then some. Thanks to Targets registry lag in marking things off we have 12 packs of hangers that we don't need and 36 onesies we don't need. 3 extra packages of washcloths and 2 extra packages of burp cloths!
If they say one thing to me when I come in to make the returns I may explode
Re: Target Registry - Vent
I've gotten a few errors but from what i see, people have issues with all websites. As for the extras. People have to tell the cashier that it is for a registry, if they dont, its not going to get marked off. When I worked there (years ago) I would see people's print outs in their cart and would ask them if something was off the registry and they would respond "oh ya, do you need this?" That could account for some of your extras and has nothing to do with the registry not updating.
Hopefully you don't have any issues returning the extra items

This. Target is known for having registry issues. My friends Target registry wasn't having purchased items taken off and she got many duplicates at her shower.

Hopefully they have changed their policy but when I had my shower for DS I tried to return duplicates and they would not return the stuff without a receipt even though it was on my registry. I was livid. I hope you have a better experience than I did.
ETA- and this wasn't anything small, we got 2 swings which cost $85!!!
They have been big sticklers about returns in the last 2-3 years--I think they're policies changed. I would ask for gift receipts from people you're close to that got you duplicates...I'm sure they would understand.
I try really hard now to make sure I give gift receipts at showers now because of my own experience! I hope your returns go smoothly! It's always fun to have gift cards
I TRIED registering at Target for my shower and gave up... It never worked. I was so frustrated.
I did have a wedding registry there, that was before their website got "upgraded" (downgraded if you ask me...) and it was just fine except within 2-3 months of the wedding it disappeared! I called their cust service and they said that this is their policy to delete registries quickly after the event. So lame! At that point I know some guests were still looking to send us some gifts to our house...
No more Target registries of any kind for me!
Yes, both of these. My cousin isr registered at Target and we got her gift from there and it didn't update, so I've already warned her that she will get duplicates, which sucks since Target is so cranky about accepting returns sometimes.
Target has been notoriously a PITA ever since they updated their website. Thankfully, none of my guests had issues with the site when they made thier purchases and luckily for me, I didn't get any repeats so I don't have anything that I need to exchange. I'm HOPING that if I have to exchange something due to it not working/missing parts, I won't have a problem!
The people telling you to settle down and that any website has its issues obviously don't know what they're talking about. Target's registry service has been crap for months now. Any employee there will tell you so.
My shower was 2 weekends ago and almost no one was able to shop off my registry for me. I ended up with a lot of clothes and small things that are nice, but not what I registered for. (Unfortunately, the nearest Babies R Us is almost 2 hours away. I hate Walmart, but I wish I had just registered there.) It wasn't until just a few days before my shower than anyone could search for my registry using anything but my email address. And how many guests knew that?? I couldn't fix it online (on the rare occasions I didn't get an error message), over the phone, in person at the store, or even with Target employees talking on the phone to higher ups. And they flat-out told me that if people COULD locate my registry, nothing would update when people checked out. An out-of-town friend had problems ordering online for me (website quit working) and spent about half an hour on the phone just to make sure what she paid for was getting sent. Everything about my registry there was ridiculous.
Target needs to just get rid of their registry service if they can't make it function. I know it used to, because we had no problems with our wedding registry. For those of you in bigger cities with other options, just skip Target.
I hatehatehate Target. Between their crappy website (hello - they're a multimillion dollar company and they can't figure out a server?!?!) and their even crappier return policies (granted, I haven't been back in over 3 years) I just avoid them all together.
I hope they don't give you issues - but it is really nice to hear someone go everything they needed at their shower (and then some!!)

I have had more issues with BRU than Target. Thanks though for putting in your 2 cents. Is a registry ideal anywhere? No. Are there issues? Yes. Are most of the issues user error? Yes. Especially when the shopper does not consider the person they are shopping for and include a gift receipt for duplicates (which happen no matter where you are shopping). People buy what they want to purchase. It is that simple.
Bottom line, a registry is nice to have. How about you just ask for a receipt from your guests? That is klassy. Or better yet, just put on the invite that you are only accepting gift cards or cash.
You too emschott need to calm down as well. Be thankful that you have friends and family that want to celebrate your LO with you. The gifts are extra.
