Names too similar?

Okay- so I think maybe, just maybe DH and I have found a name that we both like-- Kellen Ross. However, the problem is DH has a (substantially) younger half brother who lives about 6 hours away whose name is Cullen. We see them maybe 6 times a year. Do you think the two names are too similiar and we should look for something else? Or would say who cares and name him that anyway? Can't believe December starts next week!!

Re: Names too similar?

  • It could be an honor , but I'd consider changing the spelling? Kellyn might be better? It's your choice!

  • To me, they're different enough, but if you're unsure, ask. It's the best route to take. In the end it's your kid so you can pick the name you want, but it would be nice to get his opinion on the matter, or at the very least give him a heads up that you chose a similar name.

Please don't spell it differently. Adding a y is not going to change how it is said and will make his life difficult with constantly having to explain how to spell his name.

  • I love Kellen, and I bet the brother would like it.

  • I like Kellen... please do not change the second "e" to a "y".  No need to cause grief in your kid's life because you misspelled his name.

  • No worries-- we wouldn't change the e to y... the only other spelling I'd consider is Kellan-- but Kellen is the more traditional spelling.
