how long do you leave water in a sippy cup before you think it becomes contaminated? like an hour? a day? (not like it really matters, he doesn't really know how to use it yet, but still......)
I give it a good hot water rinse before refilling and get a new cup each morning. For milk I put it in the fridge after each meal and swap it out once per day, but I'm not sure that's often enough...
thanks guys. he never finishes it and just takes a few sips throughout the day and that is if I help him (he is still bfed) so I think it would last days without needing a refill.

WILL HE EVER LEARN?
Catie didn't really get interested in her cup until I switched her to the Munchkin straw cups around 12 months. She barely drank any at your LO's age.

My second took forever to learn the sippy and straws. I held my finger over the straw and let it drip into her mouth, didn't work. I was skeptical but really ready for her to take a sippy, so I bought this trainer straw cup and she mastered straws the first day we had it.
ETA: she was around 12 months at the time, so maybe something for you to consider in a few months

We tried some sippy cups, bu most required some amount of biting pressure and my boobs did not respond well to being bitten for milk. I just got some straws and taught him how to drink from a straw. Then I could avoid all the bite to get liquid trainers etc.
I just got some regular straws, cut them short and started by just sticking it in water and plugging the other end with my finger so a little was trapped in and would drip it in his mouth. After a day or so of that, he started trying to suck at the straw. Then I would put it in the cup and he could do it by himself w/in 2 weeks.
It was easy and cheap and I avoided fiftybillion cups with sixtybillions pieces to take apart and rinse
I started the straws around 8 months and just gave him an open cup to play with around 9-10 and by a year he was drinking from a straw or open cup on his own.

Thanks! So he wouldn't dump it everywhere? Impressive!
Re: water in a sippy... how long til contaminated?
we never reuse milk ones without washing.
water, well it usually doesn't last long enough to sit all day - and I reuse the same water one all day - giving it a good hot rinse before refilling.
