Alimentum and poop question

We had to switch DD from gerber to similac alimentum due to a milk protein allergy last Wednesday.  I am supposed to call the pedi's office today if it works (no vomiting, diarrhea, and she takes it) to have them submit claim to insurance to see how much they will cover.

Here is my question ladies: When DD has a BM one time it will be greenish/brown and pasty and the next is will be a looser green (borderline mucous like).  Is this normal for this type of formula?  Will it eventually become one consistency?  DD is so much happier now that she is on the alimentum so I think it is working I was just curious about other mom's experience with it.  TIA!

Re: Alimentum and poop question

  • That's how DSs poop is after switching to the Alimentum.

  • We also switched to Alimentum 5 days ago. DS has 1- 2 poops a day. Army green color, same consistency.

  • DS has been on Alimentum for about 1.5 months.  His poops are always dark green and pasty.  I can't remember what they were like while we were transitioning, but maybe that's why they're still mucousy for you?  They should become consistent.

  • Every baby is so different, but I think the rule of thumb is generally two weeks with any type of formula/diet change.  It will take some time for your LO to adjust to the new formula.  My LO also has a milk soy protein intolerance and it took a few weeks for the mucousy stools to go away.  This blog is helpful https://bit.ly/itXZUR
Good luck and I'm glad your LO is starting to feel better!
