Induction The Second Time Around

Hi Ladies,I have a question for second time+ moms. I was induced a week late with my first baby and it is looking as though I will be induced again this time around. My first induction was pretty bad, three hours of pushing, 4th degree tears, baby going into the NICU because of fever for a few days, you name it.I guess my question is, if you had an induction the second time around, was it easier? I know pitocin causes stronger contractions than natural ones which can make it more painful and I know there is a chance it could end in c-section. That was the only thing I didn't have to deal with with my first, thank goodness. Please tell me it was easier the second time around. I'm excited to meet my little girl but also not looking forward to the birth AT ALL! The memory is still pretty fresh! Thanks so much.

Re: Induction The Second Time Around

  • I was induced with both of my boys and the second time was MUCH easier. I've heard that 2nd babies generally tend to come faster and for me, it was definitely true. My doc also told me that my 2nd would probably come faster b/c of my kids being so close in age-- looks like you're in a similar situation. With my first, I was induced at 41 weeks (was 1cm dilated) and was in labor for 12 1/2 hours including about an hour of pushing. With my second, I was induced at 38w4d (was almost 3cm dilated) and was in labor for 6 1/2 hours including an hour and a half of pushing (baby was delivered sunny side up).Hope you have a safe and FAST induction if you need one!

  • Everything about mine was easier! My labor was just over 5 hours VS. 11 hours the first time. Pushed 20 minutes instead of 1 hour and 40 minutes. The contractions also didn't seem as intense as early on and I lasted longer before I got the epidural. I did tear again along my old incision site, but I felt like I recovered and healed much faster afterwards and wasn't in as much pain.

  • I was induced with DD#1 - 11 hours of labor and 3.5 hours of pushing.  With DD#2 I was in early labor, but her heartrate was dropping with each contraction (her cord was around her neck twice) so we started pitocin to move things along - 5.5 hours of labor and 20 minutes of pushing.  Besides my epi wearing off at the end, it was much easier this time around.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you, all! I was starting to get pretty freaked. Mine is scheduled for Friday and there seems to be no sign of her coming naturually in the meantime! Congrats to you, on your babies and babies to be! I'm tough, I can do this (again)!

  • I was induced with both and they were both hard. I just had my second child 3 weeks ago. My induction ended in a c-section. Her heart rate dropped. Both inductions were painful.
