GD: My numbers have gone wacky! Anyone else?

My numbers have started bouncing all over the place!  I am insulin-controlled and take an injection with each meal.  They recently changed my cut-offs (fasting = 80, one hour post-meal = 120) and upped my dosages by 1-2 units depending on the meal.  I haven't really made any changes to food that I am eating, but my numbers have gone bonkers.

For example: a meal I have eaten numerous times that normally gives me results between 100-115 gave me a 155!  But another meal that I expected to be on the higher end of my range, gave me a 96.  My lunch today - 73!

My numbers used to be pretty predictable.  One hour post meal, I could pretty much count on being between 88-120, with the occasional higher number maybe once or twice a week.  Now, my post-meal numbers can be as low as 70 and go up to 130 and higher numbers/spikes happen more frequently.  I have to call my doc tomorrow to ask, but I am afraid of them upping the insulin to counteract the higher numbers since I have so many low numbers now that are unpredictable!

I liked this game much better when I knew what to expect!  I was all ready for increased insulin-resistance and my numbers going up - that is a natural part of GD.  I was not ready for them to go up AND down with no indications as to what is triggering either direction!  Has this happened to anyone?  It's so strange!

  • I'm going through the exact same thing.  My nutritionist has been out of town so I've been waiting to talk to her tomorrow when she's back.  It's so frustrating that my "go to" GD meals are giving me high sugars... or too low ones where I could've had more carbs.  Just when I felt like I was getting the hang of things...

Same here! Saturday night my numbers were 105 when I went to bed. I was thinking great my numbers will be under 100 in the morning. I did not eat anything after my 105 reading and when I woke up my faster number was 113. Everytime I go into the doctor they are upping my insulin. It is very frustrating to me too.

  • I was literally crying about this today, as I got my highest reading to date and I had been walking around after eating a breakfast that has not given me issues in the past.

I am attributing mine to stress, as it all started after I found out I was 50% effaced a week ago and have been contracting a lot more, not to mention I think I lost my mucus plug.  Oh and H is unemployed right now.
