Why don't people think?

My aunts partner saw DS for the first time today and she said "oh! He doesn't look sickly! He looks like a healthy baby!" Who the hell said my baby was sickly...who ever said being preemie meant being sickly? She kept going on about him looking 'normal'...she was totally annoying! ::end vent::

People are idiots.  Sometimes they don't think before they speak.  I'm sorry she said that to you.  :-(

Seriously! I have heard my share of comments...mostly when I tell people DS actual age when they say "oh, he's a brand new one"...not really! But "sickly"...I think of an elderly person suffering from a serious cancer or disease!

My in-laws constantly talk about how "normal" looking, acting, etc. Gabe is.  It is so hurtful.  They also say that he isn't really 6 months old because before my due date doesn't count.

I can relate.  I just say nothing because I can't argue.  They won't change.

People don't think they just talk. That results in lots of stupid, especially about babies.

We still get a lot of "she looks so healthy, you'd never know she was a preemie!" Which is supposed to be nice so I smile but inside I'm thinking "you have no idea what her preemie issues are and preemies are allowed to be healthy!"

<hugs> I feel you - I hate the "she looks normal" comments. Even my family memebers say it.

It's mind boggling how stupid people can be! A woman in my building saw my preemie son and said Oh god he is so small! I would be terrified to carry him! 

I wanted to scream shut up!   

Surround yourself with true friends and family who understand and VENT as much as you can.
