Anyone's child hate taking a bath??? My daughter is scared of everything in water

She has never been like except for the past month.  She hates toys in the tub, got a new baby that swims and wouldnt get in bath with her in it,  and any piece of anything in tub she freaks out, bubbles, which she has always liked and last night the plug in the drain...

I am such a water person and have a hard time understanding where this fear has all of a sudden come from... What should I do?

  • By the way she was 2 in July.
  • I think it's a phase she'll grow out of & is a normal toddler fear.  Obviously you have to keep giving her baths, so just talk to her in a reassuring tone about how we need to have baths to get clean, etc.  I can almost guarantee she'll grow out of it fairly quickly.  There was one weird fear that developed when my oldest was around 2- can't think of what it was now- but it came out of the blue & then disappeared. Frustrating, but it will pass...

  • DS went through this.  It was awful.  He was terrified.  We went to baths every other day and sponge baths for the most part.  Slowly his fear subsided and finally DH got him to sit in there and collect water out of the tap in a cup (just a random thing that he seemed to like).  Now he's totally fine again.  It lasted about 3 weeks I think.

  • My DD was like that.  She is much better after this summer at the pool (previously, she really didn't like the pool, though we took lessons year round since 6 months.  I take a shower with her.  Much easier, quicker, and now she can pretty much do it by herself, with me just soaping her up and her rinsing off by herself (29 mo).
