Contractions??

Last time I gave birth my water broke first and so everything else happened at the hospital so I'm not quite sure what to expect this time around.  Are early contractions painful or can they be painless and just feel like tightening??!!

    real contractions were definitely painful, but i dilated for a month or so.  when I was in real labor, they checked me and I was at 7cm and during that- they broke my water accidentallly.

    I also wonder this. I had what I thought were BH for about 12 hours before my water broke. They averaged about 7 min apart the whole day but weren't painful per se. When my water broke I suddenly had CONTRACTIONS every 2 minutes or so until I gave birth and boy were those painful!!
