Is anyone dealing with having fibroids during pregnancy? This is my first pregnancy and never knew I had one until now! And apparently mine is a little large, about 12 cm... they said it's in a good (if that's possible?!) location, it's located up high but I'm worried about it not leaving room for baby as I get further along. And I don't think my dr is being proactive enough, or maybe I'm just worrying too much. I'm going back Wednesday to the dr so they can try to find the heartbeat again (unable to find it last week but has been seen twice on ultrasounds now). I'm thinking the fibroid is just in the way? Any advice? Good questions to ask my dr on Wednesday?
I always though pregnancy would be stressful but not this kind of stressful!!
Re: Fibroids... eeek!
I know it's hard, but try not to worry. I have 2 decent fibroids on my uterus, one measures about 4 cm ( close to my cervix) and the other one measures 7 cm (at the top of my uterus). With my first pregnancy my prenatal care was pretty much normal, I just had more ultrasounds than usual. Also at about 20 weeks the largest fibroid began degenerating, it caused a lot of pain and I was put on Vicodin for a few days. Minus the degenerating fibroid, this pregnancy is shaping up to be the same.
With my daughter I was induced at 38w 1d because she wasn't growing as expected for her gestational age, and the fear was that the fibroid was taking up so much of my blood supply that the placenta wasn't getting enough. It turned out that my placenta at 38 weeks looked like the one of someone 41 weeks along. She was born healthy and I was able to deliver vaginally.
Since there isn't anything that can be done about fibroids while pregnant, my only question was if my dr. would recommend another induction. And if so, when would he schedule it. I would like to go into labor on my own, but I understand that it may not be possible.
I'm sorry for the novel, but I hope this helps alleviate some of your concerns.
I too am dealing with fibroids during pregnancy. I was aware I had one from one of my previous pregnancies so my Dr. has been monitoring it from the start.
Thankfully it hasn't really grown since I was about 8 weeks (I'm 19 weeks now). It's measuring about 8x9cm, and up until my appointment last week was located high up on the left side of my uterus. Unfortunately, as of last week it is now encroaching on my cervix and my Dr. found a second (much smaller) fibroid that has decided to pop up too. Ugh!
Around 17 weeks, I was having constant cramping for the whole week which I assumed was round ligament pain but I think it was a little worse due to the fibroid. Basically my Dr. is just keeping an eye on it since it can affect the type of delivery I have. I'm really hoping it moves up and out of the way of my cervix so I am not automatically forced into having a c-section. My Dr. has never expressed any concern about the baby being made uncomfortable because of it or anything. I was also afraid I wouldn't feel the baby kick as easily because of it, but I've felt little nudges from him since about 17 weeks.
Sorry you're dealing with this too....apparently it's more common than you think...still sucks though.
Best of luck to you!
