Yesterday DS has been really fussy all day yesterday. He has temperature of 99.6. He did not nap all day, but slept ok at night. He feels warmer than normal. I am really worried since he is only 6 wks old. His pediatrician office is closed over the weekend, but emergency line is open. They don't want people to call with babies under 100.4 fever. What would you do?

Re: Temperature of 99.6 rectally
My mom is a nurse and she says that rectal temps are the most accurate. I would keep checking every few hours to make sure it doesn't get any higher than 100 but make sure you take the temp before LO eats (eating and digesting require energy, causing temps to increase). My mom has told me before (we have been in this situation with our DS a month or so ago too) that anything over 100 is when you should get ahold of the dr. Hope LO feels better!
Before 2 months I think most docs want a call when it gets to 100.3 or 100.4...
Just keep your LO cool for now: no excessive layers, maybe a slightly cooler than usual bath (not cold, just a smidge cooler than usual). Keep an eye on the temp, but it's nothing to worry about until over 100.4. Nurse or give bottles frequently to make sure that he's well hydrated.
