I didn't know if this would be seen in the post below so I thought I would share in a new post. Someone ask how they name the dolls and I know the answer. When I was about 10? we went to the place where the dolls are "born." It is set up like a hospital. When mother cabbage goes into labor everyone that is shopping in the hospital gathers around a window. A person dressed like a doctor pulls a doll out of a cabbage head and announces whether it is a boy or girl. The first name shouted out by the crowd of shoppers is the name given to the doll.
This was 20+ years ago so I don't know if it is still done this way but it was then.
Re: Cabbage Patch Dolls naming
Babyland General in Cleveland, Georgia? That's where their website says they're "born" now.
How funny. That would explain why their names are so on trend.
I couldn't remember the city but I knew it was in GA. We were going on vacation to FL. The whole trip down we thought of names to yell out. When the birth happened and they ask for a name neither my sister or I said anything. We were to afraid, lol.
My CP dolls' names were definitely not on trend. Mine were Helga and Francis in 1985. It's cool to know how they are "born", though.
I'd have to second this. Constance Libby was definitely not "on trend" in 1985! I loved her to death though!

Nora Anne 11/03/12
9lbs, 6oz
I had no idea! That would have been so much fun!
Knowing this now, I am not impressed with the people who named my CP dolls! I had Victor, Heidi, and a newborn whose name I cannot remember.
But that's gotta just be the dolls that they sell right there, right? Those dolls don't get shipped out?
That place does sounds like fun. I am just a teeny bit too old to remember the Cabbage Patch doll craze, but I think they're kind of cute. I'd take my daughter to that place, if I ever have one.
The ones that they sell there are the real dolls. The ones sold in stores are made by toy companies. They are not the same thing. I do wonder how they come up with the toy doll names.
This sort of explains it-there are three "tiers" of dolls:

I had 2 dolls in the 80's Wade Lenny and Carly Joelle. I think the names were pretty on trend, although not overly popular.
Thanks!
My favorite doll was Fanny Ethel. I was born in 84, but probably didn't get the doll until 86-87.
Horrible name, but I loved her all the same...
"The House We Built."
A journey of building the dream.
I had 7 CP kids and a Koosa. Let's see if I can remember them all.
Julienne Marlena
Susannah Rory
Judith Alana (Cornsilk Hair Kid)
Anita Quincey (Preemie)
Garry Marc (Preemie, and I changed his name to Marc Garry because the preemies had the same names as my parents)
Roxanne Katrina (Newborn, smaller than the preemies)
Sylvia Kate (Talking Doll)
Candy (Koosa)
