Road trip

Tomorrow will be my first trip with my DS in the car alone. We are going to a b-day party an hour away from where we live. He is usually good travelling, but there has always been somebody to entertain him in his rare facing car seat. So I suppose if there is no one around him he may get bored and start crying. So I am thinking that I should just  let him cry if he starts to, and keep driving..That's what you do, right? Please wish me luck.

Re: Road trip

  • Luck!  can you bring some soft toys for him to grab and play with?  If you've got a binky tether, you can use that to keep them within streching reach for you...

I will definitely bring some teething toys. I guess I should hang them so he can not eventually toss it away. Thanks Laura!

  • I've never driven that far alone with DS, but I occasionally drive a half an hour alone with him and mostly just hope for the best.
  • I have a 2 hour drive coming up in 2 weeks that I have to make by myself with H. She usually takes a nap in the morning so I plan to leave as soon as she starts getting tired. Maybe she'll sleep most of the way. We also got her a new convertible carseat which I hope she'll like better than her infant seat. Good luck, and if you have any pointers after your trip I want to hear them!

  • Do you have any kid music? I used to drive daily 45 minutes commute (longer with traffic) with Bern last year and I would pop in some cds to keep her happy. Lakeshore or any educational teacher supply store should have some.. Greg and Steve... Raffi... anything.  Maybe even public library has some you could borrow tomorrow...  good luck.

  • You'll do fine. With any luck, lo will fall asleep when you're driving. Music works, and it doesn't have to be kid's stuff, anything will do!
  • Good luck! You can try going during his  nap time so he will most likely fall asleep.

  • Well, we did fine. It was dark already when we left, so toys were not an option. But he was pretty tired and ate just before we left. So I sang for 15 min. and he fell asleep. Obviously he likes his momma's crappy singing:)
