Parenting after a Loss

Thinking of trying to take up sewing...

I have not clue where to start and if I can even do it.  Anyone on here sew?  I'd like to be able to make DD and #2 pjs, pillows, etc.

  • I'm thinking of doing the same thing. My mom has an old sewing machine that I want her to take out for me. She used to sew clothes for my sister and I. I'm hoping she'll give me some lessons

  • I want to learn to knit! Clearly not the same-but can you look for lessons? Like Joann's or Michaels or something? Or just look for super easy beginner patterns?

  • It's not as hard as you'd think - you just need a decent machine, some supplies, and to learn a few basic skills. I'm pretty sure Joann has classes, as does Above and Beyond Sewing on Parker Road. They were *extremely* helpful with tips and advice when I did the curtains for my family room. Costco has a little Singer machine out for sale right now (saw it yesterday at the Parker store in front). I have a simple Brother machine (under $400) that has served me well for years.

  • I raided my local library & checked out nearly every sewing book they had.  (I'm super researchy.)  I also bought one or two to keep around as references.  But there are also great resources here on the interwebs if you google for them...including a bunch of great "how to" videos!  It's really more intimidating than it is difficult.

I made my niece a jumper dress with a pattern I found for free online.  And I've "favorited" links to several sites for cute headbands (only one of which I've found the motivation to sew, but it did turn out well).  You can find all sorts of stuff if you're willing to put the time & effort in.

    Good luck & have fun!!!
