Mommy of 2 considering a move to Jacksonville

Hi Ladies,

I am hoping you Jacksonville area mommas can help me out.  We are considering a move to Jacksonville from Maryland.  I have 2 boys, Tyler 3 1/2 and Henry 8 months.  We returned yesterday from visiting the area and looking at some communities with a Realtor.  The 2 we seemed to like the most were St Johns Golf and Country Club and Julington Plantation.

I would love to hear your thoughts on those communities, how you like Jacksonville, area kid activities, etc.  Anything would be great!

  • Hi Amber,

I live down the same road as St Johns G&CC. We love this area. It is close to Jax but also close to St Augustine. The schools are rated well (St Johns county vs Duval for Jax).

My son is 3 and I think there are plenty of events for kids here. The libraries all have weekly reading/craft times. Tons of outdoor festivals. The beach! Many playgrounds. Tons of mommy groups too if that is your thing. If you are into sports, we have the Jags and a minor league baseball team.

     GL!

  • Hi Amber,

I also live in the same area, near Creekside High School. It's a nice location between Jax and St. Augustine. I'm originally from Ohio, and I really like St. Johns county and St. Augustine so much more than Jacksonville. I lived near the Town Center on the Southside of Jax for about 2 years before we moved to St. Johns. The Town Center area is fun and great for shopping, but St. Johns is the perfect place to raise a family. We also moved to this area because St. Johns has the best schools.

I'm a first time mommy, due in March, so I don't know anything about play groups. I have several friends with kids and they live in the Mandarin area of Jax (just north of St. Johns). They do a lot with their kids through the Williams YMCA in Mandarin. It's about 20 minutes from our area though.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your move!
