Anyone on here use MGH Fertility Clinic?

I am curious to see what other people's experiences are/have been.  I have not talked to my RE since right before we started our failed cycle.  Is this the norm at MGH and other clinics? Going into this I thought we would have had lots of contact with her. Instead, I felt a little uninformed throughout the entire process.

Thank you for any input!

Books read in 2011: 85 (so far) Books read in 2010: 80 Me: 33 H: 35 We have never attempted to conceive on our own due to H having a genetic disease that causes tumors. The chance of our children inheriting the disease is 50/50. After consulting with H's oncologist and an RE specializing in PGD we decided to pursue IVF with PGD. IVF#1 ER - 11/1 - 25R; 18M; 14F with ICSI; ET - 11/6 only 1 morula to transfer due to 13 embryos being affected by the disease. 11/17 - Beta = BFN PAIF/SAIF always welcome

  • I see Dr. Sabitini in Danvers. I love love her! It is typical to only see your RE or talk to your RE when you have meetings, unless they are on rotation for your ER or ET. I scheduled my own WTF right away when I was cancelled. I also had phone contact with her when she was trying to get DH into the uro. I feel 100% comfortable with MGH and love the care I have received thus far. I only have a 30% chance of IVF working and I feel that I am in the best place even given my situation. I had left Fertility Centers of New England for MGH and I  can not even begin to explain the difference in the quality of care we receive.

  • Thank you.  It is good to hear it is the norm to not generally talk to your RE throughout the cycle.  I never asked this question prior to starting and thought it was odd.  I am really not sure what kind of communcation I was expecting!

My husband and his family all have a long historty with MGH due to the family genetic condition that led us to IVF/PGD so there was no dicussion about where we would go to for the cycle. Even though the outcome of my first cycle was not what I expected I did feel comfortable with the drs performing all the u/s, ER and ET.

    Thank you for the input!

  • I don't know about not talking with your RE throughout your cycle.  It's not as through I see our RE on a regular basis, for every appt, but I do have access to him throughout.  He's the only doctor in the office, though I don't use MGH FC.  If I feel as though I'm not getting the answers from his nursing staff, I can either text or call our RE using his personal cell number.  When we were going through our IUIs, I did feel as though we were just another face, doling out $$$ at every appt.  Problem was the staff was charging us w/o running the invoices through insurance.  The problem came to light & not only did the staff apologize but the doctor apologized, at 9P at nite after the whole situation came to light.

I would say, if you want to meet with your RE, then request a meeting/consult.  If the staff says that he/she is to busy, then maybe you need to seek out another doctor.  You aren't a number or their cash cow.  Your fertility clinic's main job is to get you PG & to take care of you emotionally - that includes explaining everything to the greatest detail so that you understand the entire process.

    GL!

  • I have to say that it is very uncommon to have your REs personal cell for you to contact him. I am sure if you a direct question for your RE that they would be happy to talk to you! I am pretty sure OP meant that she does not see or talk to him while cycling and not that they are unavailable to her period.

While it might be an uncommon practice, it's just the way that my RE operates. It's not like I asked him for it, he just gave it to me. As he does other patients of his.  I wasn't trying to come off as being a snob, I think if you need a consult with your RE then request one. That's all I was trying to get at. Sorry.

  • Thank you all for the input.  We have our follow-up with our RE on 11/30.  I plan to ask there if we can have some contact with her during our next cycle. It would not have changed the outcome but there would have been many times it would have out our minds at ease.
