DH and I were talking about names for future LO's and we both like Jake, but do not like Jacob at all! The "ob" sound at the end totally turns me off, do you think just Jake is ok?
People are going to assume that his name is Jacob and he will be called that a lot. Call him Jake, name him Jacob on his birth cert.
I don't think that's necessarily true, I might ask him if his full name was Jacob but I don't think I'd call someone Jacob if he introduced himself as Jake.

I think it is fine. People will assume it is short for Jacob, but you can correct them. The idea is similar to the name Luke. Some people just like Luke instead of Lucas.

I don't see an issue with naming him Jake. For me, this name is a stand alone name and not only a nn. He may end up stating the title of your post when he introduces himself "Jake, just Jake". I would not worry though. If you both love the name go for it.

Go for it! I have never ever asked if someone's name was short for something. If someone tells me their name or I am introduced to someone, I just call them by that name and that is that.

Why would you suggest she name her kids something she really doesn't like?
I dont see a problem with it at all. We were in the same shoes as you when we named our son Xander. I have always loved the name Xander but, hated Alexander. I just could not justify giving him a name that we hated just to get to a "nn". (When I first heard the name Xander it was a stand alone name anyway) We have gotten asked twice so far if his full name is Alexander and its not a big deal to just say no.

I hope your comment is intended for Savannah, not me - I didn't say name him Jacob...

Yeah sorry! I have part of her quote bolded to show what I was addressing, but I should have just quoted her.
Love the name Jake by itself. Also not a fan of Jacob. Name him Jake. I am not one for nicknames of a formal name- name your child what you want- why give them a name you will not use.

I cant do that, I cant name a child a name I really dont like at all just to use the nickname.
this exactly. DS is Luke, just Luke. DH and I are not a fan of Lucas and never would have called him that IRL so why would we put it on his birth certificate just so it seems "proper". I see nothing wrong with using Jake as the official name.

This I think Jake works as a stand alone name.

I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
I agree, Jake can stand alone on its own
