Baby Names

Possible girl name?

Grandfather's name is Theodore.  We have considered Theodore (nn Ted or Teddy) for a boy.

I'm wondering about using any form of it for a girl.  Just plain Teddy/Teddie/Teddi or maybe Theodora nn Teddy?

I'm guessing it will be unpopular, but does anyone think its okay?

  • Teddy is the name of a character on the show "Good Luck Charlie" on the disney channel, and the character is a girl. I think it's cute, but I really don't like tradtional names.

  • DS1 is Theodore, so I obviously like it.

He has a classmate named Althea (Thea) which might be a variant for you

  • I love Theodore (see my siggy)!  I also like Theodora but I'd use Thea or Dora as a nn.

  • I like it too, but my husband said all he can think of is a chipmunk.  I don't know what he is talking about, though.

  • I love both Theodore AND Theodora. Dora is a good nickname for the latter.

  • I like Theodora (Thea, Dora, as pp mentioned) BUT that little girl will be teased in middle school, trust me, and the teacher will always read her full name on the first day of class. Kids are not used to "odd" names (not saying Theodora is odd).
  • Great name for a boy. How about Thea for a girl? I've always loved that name.
daughter born June 2011 via C-Section, son born November 2012 via VBAC
  • We had a friend growing up name Theodosia (thee-o-dough-sha)

I don't care for Teddy as a FN for a girl. I feel like it's a cute nickname but not FN.

  • One of my best friends has a DD named Thea (Thee-ah) as a standalone first name. I love it. Also, I think Thora could work without being too much of a stretch, that one is on my list.
