budgets and such...

How much have you spent? We're at $470 including cloth diapers. It seems like a lot to me... mostly cause I have been trying to budget (I know its not that bad!). We bought our crib, car seat, rocking chair, change table used so that helped a lot. My coworkers are having a shower for me in 2 weeks so that will help too. If there is a lot of stuff I'll leave it and see if we really need it (we have the essentials) ...

Re: budgets and such...

  • I'd say you're doing pretty gosh darn awesome!

I haven't really totaled up what we've spent but I know it's way over that. We're not having a shower so we've been buying it all ourselves. I haven't really gotten anything used...but haven't gone overboard either (tons of coupons and cutting on the things we don't think are neccessary). We bought the crib new but got a used dresser for free and bought a used piece of furniture for our changing table. DH is making a bookcase too.

  • I was never good with saving extra money, and budgeting is a word is not in my dictionary. Fortunately I never had to worry about my spendings... but I am sure I did spend well over $3K so far and that's nothing compare to how much these kids are going to cost us... add daycare, diapers, clothes... that's just the start! I do like consignment stores and a good sale =)

  • Wow--I'm really impressed--that is a great number. We are having #2 so we are not really buying too much this time around since we have everything we need from #1 and it's still good/safe. But I think with baby #1 we were well into the thousands when you factored in furniture, clothes, gear, stroller, etc. Granted we did buy some pretty expensive items, but we still had two showers where we received lots of gear/clothing too.

    Way to go!!

Will baby #3 be another girl?

  • That's doing really well!
We had to buy a new crib, crib sheets, a few newborn clothes and also a bunch of new furniture for our 2 year old's new room... he kept his crib as it converts to a toddler bed and full bed later, but we got a dresser, paint for his walls, an activity mat rug, and some storage bins for a cupboard for his toys. We also had to get a new dresser for DH because we had to re-arrange our room to fit in some of the office things that were in the den- which is now DS's new room! So the total cost was about $900. Ouch. And we may need to invest in a double stroller still...

When we bought new everything for DS when he was born we spent close to $2500... luckily we got a nice big tax return that year!!

  • I haven't kept track of how much we've spent but I'd say about $500 on "baby gear" (we got an awesome deal on our furniture) and maybe another $800 on remodeling her room (we got new floors, fixtures, paint, etc.). The only items we still need are the stroller, breast pump, and monitor- which will be about $600 or so. Wow, now that I wrote it all down, it seems like a lot.

  • Let's see.... Crib, dresser, refinish antique rocking chair, shelves, bedding, decorations...... about $650.  Car seat, misc. consignment sale stuff.  $250.  So I'd say about $900 total.

  • I think that we are at about $700, maybe less.  Car seat, PnP, bouncer = $245, changing pad, boppy, pump + accessories, pacifiers, bottle sterilizer, swaddle blankets, sheets, jackets, sleepbags, more small stuff.. = $400

We were given the crib at our shower, bassinet was from SIL.  We still need to get a dresser, stroller, and monitor.  The dresser is the only thing we really need asap though.

  • We've spent a little over $3,000, and we still need to buy a monitor and breast pump.  So far we bought a crib, dresser, rocker/recliner, cubby shelves, decals, car seat, stroller, bassinet, and then all of the random stuff like towels, clothes, burp cloths, diapers, etc.

  • Honestly, I have no idea.  We really weren't on a baby budget, but we spread out the purchases over the 9 months, so we didn't even notice the extra spending.

I think that's how we did it when expecting our 1st. Spreading out the purchases really helped!
