Trouble TTC

Ovidrel tips and tricks?

I have to give myself my first injection today.  Any tips or tricks I need to know?  I'm trying not to freak out.  I use to give my dog allergy injections, so I keep telling myself it can't be any worse than that.

TIA

Re: Ovidrel tips and tricks?

  • I took one last night. It's really not a big deal at all. Best advice I can give you is just don't think about it too much beforehand (easier said than done I know :) If you're worried, just pinch really hard in the area around the cleaned site and then do the injection. That way you're more focused on the pinch than anything. I would do the injection in a fattier area on your stomach near the belly button. I'm sure you'll be just fine....just remember: mind over matter! GL!

  • Are you giving in the muscle or just in the belly?  If just in the belly, I take a chunk of my belly and pinch it between the fingers of my left hand.  Slowly insert the needle with your right hand (swap if you're a lefty) and inject the medication.  I find that doing it slowly makes less trauma to the skin.  Good luck - it's not that bad, you can do it!

  • THe anticipation is the worst part.  It really doesn't hurt.  When I did it to myself, I would get everything ready, lay on the couch, line up the needle then just close my eyes and jab.  That was easier for me then to squeeze my skin like the directions said.  If you close your eyes, just make sure you're in the right spot first!  I would take a breath after the needle was in, before I did the injection.  I also waited a few secs before taking it back out.  It's really easy.  I promise that after you do it you'll think it was no big deal at all.  It really is the anticipation that gets you.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!

  • Try laying down while you do the shot.  I have a friend who is a neo-natal nurse that taught me this trick.  Now I barely feel most of my sub-q shots!

  • I did it!  Thank you for the tips.  It wasn't bad at all, just the anticipation.  I went to an advanced screening of a movie this evening with a friend, so that was a good distraction.  As soon as I got home I sucked it up and did it.  I didn't give myself time to think about it.  Now I cross my fingers and start the 2ww!
