2nd Trimester

15 weeks and not showing - anyone else?

I've been perusing some of the belly pictures on other boards and I look NOTHING like them. I'm 15 weeks have no bump at all. My pants are tighter and I can see a new little bulge very low down, but that's it. It's freaking me out.  I'm short and was thin-ish to begin with and don't carry weight around my belly, so I thought I'd show earlier. I know that girls who are very fit don't show til later because their abs hold it in better, and I *used* to work on my ab muscles a lot, but it's been a long time since I've set foot in a gym.

I've been pretty paranoid throughout this pregnancy and got DH to agree to wait to tell everyone. We agreed on Thanksgiving, but now I'm getting cold feet :(

Anyone else not showing yet?

Re: 15 weeks and not showing - anyone else?

  • I never had a bloat bump that most people are showing in the earlier weeks. My real bump did not show (in the SLIGHTEST) until 20 weeks.

  • With my first, I wasn't showing at 15 weeks.  I don't remember when it really happened, but all my family says it was after 20 weeks until I had a bump.  Don't stress it; you'll be fine.
  • Everyone shows at a different pace.  I don't think your bump size (or lack thereof) correlates with the health of your pregnancy.  Lots of people (especially first time moms) don't show until 20 weeks or after.

I'm not really showing either.  I'm not built like you (i'm plus sized and tall with a long torso) but I'm still in all my regular clothes and haven't gained any weight yet.  In my first pregnancy I didn't really show either.  I felt so self conscious walking into the hospital to deliver because I thought no one would believe that I was really pregnant...

  • I'm the same as you.  I'm only 14 weeks, but I am short and thin-ish as well.  Some pants are tighter and some fit the same, depending on where they sit on my waist. Some days I think I can see a bump but it's only maybe slightly obvious to me.  I work out often but definitely don't have abs of steel!  Don't be nervous!  Let's consider ourselves lucky that maybe we won't be miserably huge by the end. I try to focus on my other symptoms (even though they aren't fun) to reassure me that everything is okay.  Hearing the heartbeat at the dr. always settles me down too.  I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!  I'm sure your family will be ecstatic!  Telling my family really helped with the anxiety I had at the beginning.  Being able to talk to other women about my symptoms or concerns helped out a lot since they had experienced it already.
  • I didn't start showing until about 20 weeks and I'm still in some regular pants. I don't have as big of a bump as other people, but the baby is fine and healthy so I'm not worried.

  • This is #2 and I'm not showing yet either. I definitely thought I would be by now. But, it will come soon enough, and I'm in no hurry!
  • I'm 15 weeks and definitely not showing yet.  I am sitting down and work which is usually when it is slightly noticeable and still my boss commented on how I'm not even showing.

I guess it helps that I'm tall, still throwing up, and still swimming a few times a week.

I have my next OB appointment tomorrow and I'm a little nervous because of the lack of a bump so hopefully everything checks out.

  • I didn't start showing until 19 weeks for sure!!

  • You sound exactly like me - I'm 15 weeks and have a slight pudge for lack of a better word down low, but nothing really like a bump.  If you didn't know me you wouldn't notice anything at all I dont think and if you did know me you would probably just think i've put on a few pounds.  I'm not really worried at all - I figure the bump will come when it comes!

  • I"m bigger to begin with but with my first DD I was so sick I lost 40 lbs, and didnt end up showing until around 7 months when I finally stopped being sick, and gained 20 lbs back.

  • I'm 17 weeks and still not showing. I think it may be because I have really strong abs. I do a ton of yoga and before I got pregnant I used to do a lot of sit ups too. I look a little thick around the middle, but no actual "bump" yet.

  • don't worrry! with my first child, I didn't show until my 7th month of pregnancy!!! However with second and third, my hips spread out before I knew I was pregnant and my bump started showing at 8 weeks! you and baby will be fine :-)  you will show eventually and there is no need to be excessively big!

  • I know exactly how you feel. I am 5'1 and a size 0. I figured I would show early because the baby would have nowhere to go. I remember freaking out around week 15 too.  Now I am at week 20 and just starting to see a slight change. I am still in the same jeans and everything and I've only gained 3 lbs. I still don't appear to be pregnant to anyone that doesn't already know. I googled 20 weeks pregnant and I have no idea where my baby is fitting because I don't look like anyone online.

I have asked my doctor every time we meet if I should worry and she said everyone is different and I am fine. So now I have decided that she must know what she's doing and I need to stop worrying. I would suggest that you just relax and enjoy the savings on maternity clothes for now :)

  • That's still pretty early, especially for a first baby.  I didn't have a tiny bump until 21 weeks with DS and I'm not showing at all yet at 19 weeks with baby #2.  My stomach was flat pre-preg for both.

  • I'm with you!  I just had DD last December, only 5' tall, and thought for sure I'd be showing early this time.  Nope, 14 weeks and I could go to the beach in a bikini and no one would suspect I was pregnant.  With DD I didn't show until around 20 weeks.
  • I'm exactly the same.  I'm 15 weeks and I'm short and thin too (about 5'2" 110 pounds) and I'm not showing anything yet.  Well, I can tell I'm a little thicker around the middle, and I have a larger than usual pooch after I eat, but so far even my husband can't really tell a difference.  My doctor seems to think everything is perfectly normal though, so I'm happy :)

Everyone told me that since I am small that I would start to show faster than larger people.  All the old ladies at work are SUPER disappointed whenever they see me, and they make jokes like "where you hiding that thing?!"  Kind of annoying, but I'm just going to try to enjoy wearing my regular clothes for as long as possible.

  • I'm 23 weeks and not technically showing. If you know me then I look pregnant. If you don't then you probably think I'm just an average weight girl with a thicker middle.
  • I'm 15 weeks or so and still have not popped. I'm 5'3 and straight as a board and I barely have a bump. I thought I would show early too since I am thin, but no such luck! I think everyone is just different. I would not worry about baby. They say after 1st trimester your baby grows size wise at its own pace, so I would not worry! Best of luck.

  • I am also around 15 weeks and not showing.  I have only gained 1 pound so far.  I sitll wear all my non-maternity clothes.  My OB said that some women are built to not show until 20 weeks or so.  So, it is normal.  With my DD, I only gained 22 pounds.
  • Possibly a bit of an Old Wives Tale, but I always heard that women carry like their moms.  So if your mom showed (relatively) late, you probably will too.

I definitely showed much later with my first pregnancy then I did with my second (current) one.  The first time around I gained about 10 pounds by now and I wasn't showing at all.  This time I have only gained 2 1/2 pounds but Oi Vey my belly is huge.

  • I didn't start showing until I was about 26 weeks! I used to get so nervous when I looked at other people's belly photos. And when people would say "You're HOW many months? I looked like you at 3 months!" I thought for sure something was wrong, and I asked my doctor and he said as long as the baby measurements are fine, we don't pay attention to belly size. Smile
  • With DD I didn't show until 20 weeks. I am almost 14 weeks with baby #2 and I still don't have a bump. Just like you I am short and thin, so its going to take awhile for my stomach abs to push out. Don't worry you will have a bump soon!

  • I'm almost 17 weeks, and pretty much the same boat as you. My clothes are feeling a little tighter & I can notice a small bump myself without clothes, but noone else can even tell I'm pregnant. This is my first and I'm on the smaller side too. I wouldn't worry.

I forgot that we 'came out' on PCE at the same time and we're around the same point!!!

I'm just really bloated. I look fat more than anything :)

  • I am 13 almost 14 weeks and my stomach is completely flat still... Absolutely no signs of being pregnant. I have gained 4 lbs but my pants fit completely the same. I am wanting to start showing and I hope it starts soon! The only thing that has dissipated are my abs... Partially because I stopped working them out.
  • I didnt start showing unitl almost 18-19 weeks ..then out of NOWHERE came this HUGE bump! Now i have a TOTAL prego belly

W O W ! Are you lucky! I just keep sticking out in front like a Boeing 747. I just keep getting bigger and bigger each hour.

Well I do understand your predicament and do sympathize with you on this; but, here's the lowdown as for me I popped in my 17th week with this pregnancy. In my second pregnancy it was in week 19 while my first pregnancy happened toward the end of week 24 a few days after I had seen my doctor for my 24 week check-up. I ask him way I hadn?t shown my bump yet - he smiled and simply said (for a first time pregnancy) ?it usually averages happening in week 21; however, it can happen any time usually between weeks 14-32 so just don?t get discouraged young lady it will happen to you and when it does you?ll wish it had taken a little longer. Why? ?Cause then is when it?s noticeable to everyone and you become very uncomfortable having that big bump out in front not being able to get comfortable - standing, sitting, walking, lying down, seeing your shoes, bending over, stooping, putting on your socks or shoes, etc., etc., etc.?

?Also when it happens you?ll find it?s harder on your back, legs, stomach, breast, shoulders making it harder to balance, walk, especially getting up out of bed or a chair when sitting down. So just enjoy the fact it's not all out in front right now.

However I do understand you want to pop - show-off out in front!?

I know this is not what you wanted to hear - really just grin, smile, laugh a little it will happen before you know it!

    GL!

  • I'll be 16 weeks on Monday and I'm not showing at all. This is my first child. Since I'm actually feeling better post 1st trimester sometimes its hard to imagine that I'm pregnant! I look forward to those OB appointments to hear the heartbeat! I guess for now we should just enjoy wearing our non-maternity clothes Smile
