Wiping themselves

Does your LO wipe him/herself after #2 at school? I remember signing a form before the school year started, allowing Jo's teachers to wipe her. I even needed to provide wipes. Today, Josie told me that her teacher told her to do it and to try and be careful. I haven't taught Jo the correct way to wipe after going #2, so it upsets me a bit. I am always nervous about a UTI or some kind of infection! So, does your LO wipe by themselves?

At home, no, I wipe her after #2. She sings out "Come wipe my bottom!" At school, I think she wipes herself but honestly, I don't know. 

 

update: just asked sara. She said she wipes her bottom, she does it all by herself.

DD wipes herself.  Sometimes if she's really messy she'll call me, but it's a learning experience when she doesn't do a good enough job and stains a favorite pair of panties.  She doesn't want poop in there any more than I do! It's not an option at school- they don't wipe and they don't clean up accidents.  I've taught DD to wipe from the back (she doesn't know there is another way!), and to keep wiping until the toilet paper comes away clean.  She is good about using the appropriate amount, and if she needs another piece, she'll get it.

Our school requires kids to do it themselves. Because of this, I made ds start doing it at home while I "supervised". Now he does it all himself. I did buy flushable wet wipes recently because I thought those would help him and because he doesn't do a good job of wadding up the three miles of toilet paper he rips off.  He's a pretty regular pooper so he normally goes once mid-morning at school and once when he gets home after school. Occasionally he'll throw in a bonus poop before bed.

They have the kids do it themselves at DD's preschool, but after coming home with some "skid marks" in her underwear a couple times I'm having the teachers do an extra wipe when she does go there to make sure she gets clean.  We're working on it at home.

I never understand these posts.  How messy are people's kids BMs?  DD wipes herself and has from pretty much day one - with some supervision/guidance at the beginning.  Unless she's got diarhhea or something, it shouldn't take more than one "pass" to wipe her bottom.  She's come home w/ skid marks in her undies a handful of times.  Pee. .. we are still working on how/where to wipe, but it hasn't been an issue.

Yes, DS wipes his own bottom at school and at home.  At home though, I give him a baby wipe.  DH just has DS use toilet paper.

Yes, at school she always wipes herself.  That was one of the requirements, that kids be completely able to go potty themselves (including wiping).  At home, sometimes she asks me to do it and I usually tell her to do it herself and I'll check after if she isn't sure she did it completely.  It sounds like you just need to show her the right way to wipe and your problem will be solved.

Our preschool does not wipe. It is the law around here that they can't help with that kind of stuff. At home, I always wipe and at school Hayden does it by herself. We haven't had any problems apart from a track mark here and there. LOL!

My DS1's BMs really vary, but are sometimes very messy - when I wipe him, it takes 3-5 wipes, and I'm pretty efficient with the wipes. So an inexperienced 3-year-old who can't see what he's doing is going to have some problems.

DDs school is more than willing to help out, but her room has some kids who aren't potty trained yet so I don't think it is a big deal.

She wipes herself just fine, although if she has a messy poop, which isn't all that common, she could use a bit of help, because while she'll get there it might take her forever. So in those cases, she does get a bit of help from the teacher, but that's rare.

This. DD eats a lot of fruit and veggies. Her BMs are pretty soft and can take a few wipes to clean. That and the toilets are normal adult toilets, not sure if some preschools have small potties. I just think it is a lot for a 3 yr old to be responsible for, IMO.

 I talked to her teacher today, and DD just needs to let them know she is going to poop before they take her to the bathroom, so they can grab the wipes and help her out. I am going to start teaching her about how to wipe properly, I just wasn't sure if this is something all 3 year olds are doing.

I agree.  Usually, they are not that messy but sometimes they can be pretty loose and need some extra wiping.  He tries but sometimes can smear things where they shouldn't be.  At home, we help him but at school, he is on his own.  He did bring home a shirt in a bag last week and when I asked him he said he got poop on it.  Great.  Just what you want wondering around a daycare/preschool classroom.

They cannot help at school (its a rule) and DS1 is regular enough that he generally goes in the afternoon/evening at home and not during AM school.   

DS1 (lucky me) likes for me to wipe his booty, so he always asks me "mom, when I am all done can you please come wipe my butt."   When my mother was home with him, he did it himself.  DS1 poops also tend to be messy.  It's probably the fruit/juice that he drinks.  I need to start buying the flushable wipes again so he can practice.  He does better with those.
