I had always planned on having my Mirena in for two years before TTC#2, and I got mine in November 2009, so . . . I got mine out today.
I had kind of been waffling about it, but then I saw Jitterbug and LindseyJW's posts. And the other night, I was having awful stabbing pains in my pelvis. Really painful, and this isn't the first time it's happened.
I went in today and it took two seconds to pull it out--and it HURT! My doctor said it doesn't usually hurt, so it had probably started to embed itself into my uterus (hence the pain). So now I'm really glad I got it out.
Just thought I'd share my experience if anyone was thinking about getting theirs removed . . .
Re: goodbye, Mirena
You know, I really liked it right up until I didn't. If you're not having problems, I bet you're fine. It might just be different body types or something--different shaped uteri, who knows.
It did help my AF go from 3-4 days to practically nothing!

Thanks for the feedback, ladies! This is actually making me feel a lot better--everything I was reading on google was saying the removal should hurt less than the insertion, plus there were all these horror stories about embedment=infertility . . . I need to step away from google self-diagnosis, I think.
And thanks for the good wishes! I think we're going to wait a cycle or two to make sure everything's back to normal but hopefully we'll be TTC by the new year.

They did--I wasn't worried so much about getting pregnant on Mirena like they did, it just got me thinking more about getting mine taken out.

Good luck TTC!
I'm glad that you got it removed before it embedded! My Paragard got surgically removed in July b/c it dug its way out of my uterus and was compressing my intestines. My OB freaked out when she saw it during surgery--she thought that it wasn't as far out as it was. They had to call in a general surgeon to check for perforations in my intestine. I will never ever recommend an IUD to anyone from now on. Apparently, I shouldn't have ever gotten one in the first place b/c I have a tilted uterus.
Good luck TTC! I hope it happens soon.
