Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Update to missing/death of toddler in STL(sad)

It was the mother. Gosh dang it I gave her the benefit of the doubt in my original post. There is no other info as to motive or what happened but they do have her in custody and have said they no longer are looking for the killer.

Why oh why would a mother do this to her child

Re: Update to missing/death of toddler in STL(sad)

  • I have been obsessively following this case since last night. It absolutely makes me sick. One article I saw said she became very very angry (reason unknown) and killed him in a rage. I am seriously so upset and disgusted about this. I just don't get it.

  • is this that story (I saw a few days ago) that the mom left the boy in the car or something? She had super bad OCD or something? I dunno nancy grace was talking and I could only listen to her part time.
  • Sick!
PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps...
Mom to Carter (6), and Calianne (1).
Proud VBAC, natural birth, breastfeeding, cloth diapering momma!

  • This makes me sad on so many levels. Poor little boy.

  • I didn't want to think it was the mother, but I did give a side eye to the article saying she put him to bed just after midnight. The article wasn't specific enough and it could have been (had she been telling the truth) that she finally got him to sleep then. But my first thought was why on earth would you but a 13 month old to bed at midnight?

So sad. Seriously, if you don't want your child just go drop them off somewhere (safe of course) SOMEONE does want them.

In most case, it's because of mental illness.

I totally know in my head that this person is mentally ill or unstable or whatever, but I do not understand this. How do you get *mad* at a one-year-old? And that mad? Frustrated, I totally get. Needing to put them down and walk away for a minute before you scream. Totally right there with you. But mad? In a rage? At a one year old? This just blows my mind. I don't get that. That poor baby.
  • Do we even know cause of death yet?  I'm still hoping it was an accident and she was scared and tried to cover it up, poorly.

  • The toddler "left in the car" was in Washington.  Last I checked he was still missing.

These stories are quite upsetting.  I know that mental illness can cause some of these situations, and they obviously have some sort of issues. Yet sometimes it seems like some of these women are functioning in society.

I might be fuzzy on some of these details, but in Kansas last year a college graduate delivered a baby, wrapped him up in a towel and put him in the dumpster.  The trash people heard him crying and rescued him.  I don't remember where, but another woman, delivered twins, smothered them both, left them in a laundry basket  and went to work at her job as an accountant at at dental office.  To me, if you can obtain a college degree you ought to be functioning enough to go, hmm kill baby or no? I think some of it is selfish and they really just think they might get away with it!

i don't think there is much we can understand. i've worked with and known incarcerated people and the one thing most of them really do have in common is poor impulse control. i know that's very unsatisfying, but it comes home to me whenever austin has a rough day. i am very aware of the parts of my brain that seem to panic when he won't stop screaming.

i'm not saying this could be any of us. but i also know that no job i ever had has made me as frustrated and stressed as parenting. it's not like going to college or being an accountant.

News 4 is saying she got angry and beat him to death, dumped his body, came back and went to sleep and then woke up and reported him missing.

How do you fall asleep after you do something like that.

there is a news conference with prosecuting attorney at 3:15

I hadn't read that at the time. I just read that she's been charged with 2nd degree murder and he suffered blunt force trauma.  Unimaginable.

that is what makes me even more sad, it seems to be happening more frequently.  i am so upset for those poor, innocent babies and children who are abused. even though i know i can't do much personally, i do feel like there has to be something people can do to protect children in unstable homes.  May God bless his little soul.

    please completely ignore this:

"Crime-wise, we are back to the levels of 1970. In the '70s and the '80s, crime started going up until it peaked around 1993. After that, it started going down again, steeply. So if you were playing outside in the '70s or '80s (are you ready for this?), your children today are actually SAFER than you were."
