Trouble TTC

Dr. orders are IN!

He suggested on of the following.

Follistim

Menopur

Clomid

I think we have chosen to give Clomid a try before moving into more expensive drugs. Don't women who dont respond well to Clomid then go on to try Follistim? Whats the big difference?

Today is  CD29 if I don't start by tomorrow (which I wont) they do B/W then induce AF to get this next cycle going! Im weirdly excited! I have been seeing Drs since july6th and this will be my first medicated cycle!!!! Uhg finally.

  • I don't have much in the way of answers for you.  I reacted poorly to Clomid so switched to Femara and have been ovulating on it.  I really just wanted to wish you GL on your first medicated cycle.

  • Every RE is different, some prefer clomid, some prefer follistim. But yes, if you respond poorly to clomid they typically try the other. GL!

  • As far as my understanding goes, Clomid is a pill that acts as an inhibitor to the brain, blocking estrogen receptors to the brain tricking it to make more, which should cause your body to release more FSH hopefully producing a follicle.  Follistim, is an injectable medication, that is more direct, instead of blocking anything your simply injecting FSH into your system, there is more control with this drug because you can change the dosage as you go, Clomid is a wait and see what happens kind of drug.  But most doctors start with Clomid.

  • I haven't been on anything but Clomid. The way my RE explains it is that if you don't respond to Clomid or it thins your lining like it did in my case, you'll move on to Follitism (injectables). That's my plan for next cycle if my lining doesn't thicken up this Clomid cycle. Many people have success with Clomid though and my RE says there's less risks with it of multiples or long term hormonal issues. Good luck!

  • Clomid is a pill. Follitism and menopur are injectibles. Some women don't respond to clomid so they need to move on to other drugs. Or, as mentioned above, they can respond but clomid can thin your lining. Also, you usually take clomid for a set number of days and if there is no response you are done for that cycle. With injectables, the dr. can tweak with your dosage as you go until you get to where needed.

I didn't respond to clomid. Had one follie when I took follitism (gonal-f) and my best response with menopur. GL!
