Re: Daily Bed Rest Check-In (Wed) 11/16/11

  • 1. How many hours a day did you used to watch TV? How many now that you're on bed rest?  I ususally watch a couple hours a night with DH.  We have tea and relax on the couch together.  Since being on bed rest, I basically have it on all day long, but I'm not really paying attention.  I just like the background noise while I work.

    2. What type of "outdoor critter" do you absolutely hate finding in your house? Any kind of bug is horrifying!

    3. Does a doctor's vaccination policy play into your decision for choosing them as your pediatrician? It wasn't a big factor since we wanted to follow the traditional schedule anyway, but it is nice to know that he is ok with a delayed schedule because that says to us that he really listens to parents and their wishes.

    4. Updates & Vents  I had a check-up on Monday.  I'm still having contractions but so far my cervix is still closed and I had a negative fFN!  My doc even cleared me to go to Thanksgiving dinner at my sister's house 2 hours away.  I'm crossing my fingers that bed rest keeps working and baby keeps cooking!

How many now that you're on bed rest?  I used to watch a couple hours a night.  Now it varies.  Somedays I have it on as background noise, some days I don't turn it on until evening... yesterday I watched a lot of tv.  I got into Breaking Bad and am trying to ration it because it's so good.2.  What type of "outdoor critter" do you absolutely hate finding in your house? An ant.  It means there's more coming.3.  Does a doctor's vaccination policy play into your decision for choosing them as your pediatrician?  I haven't looked into a pediatrician yet... 4.  Updates & VentsMy appt yesterday went well.  Bed rest does work!  My cervix measured around a 2 just like last week.  The tech measured 3 times, but my cervix is "dynamic" and I still worry that it might be smaller than she thought.  Vent: I'm having trouble sleeping.  I woke up to pee around 4 and I've been up since... as soon as DH got up for work, I started to tell him I'd been awake for hours and I started crying hysterically and couldn't stop for a long time... I don't know why now... everything is going well and I'm usually pretty upbeat about all this.  But this morning I am a mess.  Does this happen to you guys?

  • 1.  How many hours a day did you used to watch TV? How many now that you're on bed rest?

Typically I used to watch a hour or so an evening depending on what was going on. Now I have the tv on pretty much every day all day just to have something on.

    2.  What type of "outdoor critter" do you absolutely hate finding in your house?

Ummm....probably ants but once a bat got in my house. I about died. DH was in CA for work and my dad ended up coming over and then I went and spent the night at their house.

    3.  Does a doctor's vaccination policy play into your decision for choosing them as your pediatrician?

We have not started looking. That was on my list to do in October but the whole being in the hospital has cancelled a lot of my plans

    4.  Updates & Vents

I posted a post about my updates. I am just trying to be hopeful that we can make it another couple of weeks. Right now my husband is not being very positive.

ABSOLUTELY!!  You are going to have those days where you just break down.  I managed 3 weeks of bed rest before my first break down, then just had another huge one last week at my 7-week mark.  The whole sleep deprivation definitely plays a part.  It's ok to get it out - bed rest is an extremely tough thing for anyone to handle, throw on top of it the fact you're pregnant and hormonal and stressed and it's a wonder we all do as well as we do the majority of the time!  It takes a lot of mental stamina but you have a lot of support from everyone here - hang in there.  You're doing great - really.

  • Happy Hump Day everyone! This week is also dragging for me, but they all kind of do Tongue Tied I am anxious to get to 35 weeks and have some hope that these girls won't need any NICU time!

    1.  How many hours a day did you used to watch TV? How many now that you're on bed rest?

I was not a tv watcher before bedrest. I would usually have the tv on something like the Food Network just for some background noise to the other stuff I was doing. Now I watch tv ALL THE TIME. I really hate it! I've always had my shows I like to watch (Glee, Grey's, Private Practice) but now I watch mindless things I would have never wasted time on before. Can't wait till these girls are here and we will turn the tv off!!

    2.  What type of "outdoor critter" do you absolutely hate finding in your house?

Any kind!!! Haha. If it belongs outdoors I am going to probably freak if it is in my house. Mice, spiders, bugs... yuck!

    3.  Does a doctor's vaccination policy play into your decision for choosing them as your pediatrician?

I plan on vaccinating my daughters. I was not aware that a pediatrician could have something called a "vaccination policy"...

    4.  Updates & Vents

None again today! Second appointment of the week is tomorrow morning with BPP/NST/cervix check.. so I will have some updates then!

    Enjoy the day everyone Smile

  • 1) Before bed rest I would watch a couple of hours at night with H. Now it's on for most of the day, but more just for noise while I surf the Internet.

    2) I hate all bugs, but especially spiders. I make H kill any bugs I find, which annoys the crap out of him when it's 6am. Oh well!

    3) We plan on vaccinating, so it's not a concern to me.

    4) Friday is my first appointment since I got put on bed rest and I'm so nervous that my cervix will be shorter or that the FFN will come back positive. I'm hoping that I don't end up in the hospital for Thanksgiving, not so much for me, but because I'd hate to ruin the holiday for H and my family, who I'm sure would insist on keeping me company. I just really want the girls to stay put until at least 32 weeks when they're lungs are developed, and preferably until my scheduled c-section at 37 weeks.

  • 1. Before bedrest, I watched maybe an hour or two/day. On bedrest, I watch or at least have the TV on for 5 hours/day. We got our electric bill recently and dh commented about how our usage is up quite a bit from last year. :( 2. I am deathly afraid of bats in our house. We used to get them in our house growing up and I remember one hiding in the living room curtains. We had one in our house a few years back and I left the house while DH tried to get it out. I can't even look at a picture of a bat. 3. We aren't concerned about a pediatrician's vaccination policy since we plan on following the recommended schedule. 4. No updates but just glad to be 26 weeks today. Each week that passes feels like a huge accomplishment since being put on bedrest at 21 weeks.

You are doing great!!!! I am experiencing the same thing with waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to go back to sleep! I have had at least one major meltdown since being on bedrest! It is a stressful time for us, so don't beat yourself up!! Hugs! Wish we could hang out together.

  • YES!!  Yesterday, I got mad at my husband for buying moldy strawberries and I cried for HOURS - once I started, I couldn't stop.  I like strawberries, but I think it *may* have been something else I was upset about.  And as awful as I felt yesterday, I feel sort of cleansed today.

  • 1. How many hours a day did you used to watch TV? How many now that you're on bed rest?

I watch around 6-8 hours a day right now Tongue Tied. It's awful! Before I would watch maybe an hour or so. Unless there was something I really wanted to see on, I wouldn't watch tv.

    2. What type of "outdoor critter" do you absolutely hate finding in your house?

    Mice!! Yuck!

    3. Does a doctor's vaccination policy play into your decision for choosing them as your pediatrician?

Where I am in Canada, we just see the family doctor. Kids don't see a pediatrician unless there are specific concerns. I don't think I would be too keen on my kids seeing a doctor that was anti vaccines. Since I'm a nurse and give vaccinations everyday when I'm working, I really believe in vaccines.

    4. Updates & Vents

I'm annoyed with people that keep saying they want to help while I'm on bedrest, but don't do anything! If anyone asks what they could do, I always say a meal would help. Most people don't pull through. So annoyed with people that say they want to help just to be nice.

  • 1.  How many hours a day did you used to watch TV? How many now that you're on bed rest?

Before, maybe 2 hours.  Now... not too much more during the week, as I am working from home.  On the weekends - ALL FREAKING DAY.  UGH!

    2.  What type of "outdoor critter" do you absolutely hate finding in your house?

spiders.... it icks me out to even type it!

    3.  Does a doctor's vaccination policy play into your decision for choosing them as your pediatrician?

    I am clueless here.

    4.  Updates & Vents

So, yesterday was my "concierge" consultation.  I would say the majority of it was silly - maternity styling, baby name brainstorming, packing for the hospital, planning the babymoon???  But there were a couple services I admit to being interested it - finding a nurse or postpartum doula, a nanny, lactation consultant, things like that.  She will be back in 2 weeks with more info on the things I was interested in, and more importantly - the cost.  I'll update then!

  • 1. How many hours a day did you used to watch TV? How many now that you're on bed rest?

Before bedrest, the TV would be on for several hours per day, but I would only actually watch about half the time (i.e., I would have the news on while getting ready in the morning, but only somewhat paying attention). Now that I am on hospital bed rest, I have some days where it is on from when I wake up to when I go to sleep (although it's mostly just background noise), but other days, like today, I need a break and keep it shut off.

    2. What type of "outdoor critter" do you absolutely hate finding in your house?

I hate spiders, but we live near a lake so they are inevitable and I deal with them (or make DH kill the really big ones). I would have to say mice are the worst. Luckily, I have only seen two mice in the 3 years we have had our house, and both sightings were in the first few months.

    3. Does a doctor's vaccination policy play into your decision for choosing them as your pediatrician?

We live in a small community where there are only 2 pediatrics offices, so there's not really a lot of choice. If I could be more choosy, I would gravitate toward pro-vaccination doctors, so there would be less chance of LO getting exposed to unvaccinated children at the office.

    4. Updates & Vents

I agree with PP - time seems to be dragging this week! Maybe it's because it seems pretty set that I will get to go home in a week, and I am just waiting for the big day!

  • 1.  How many hours a day did you used to watch TV? How many now that you're on bed rest?  I travelled a great deal before bed rest, so I often kept the tv on in my hotel room just for the noise.  On bed rest, the tv is on all the time, but I only pay attention to a couple of programs each day.

    2.  What type of "outdoor critter" do you absolutely hate finding in your house?  This summer a tiny frog made its way into our living room.  Not cool.

    3.  Does a doctor's vaccination policy play into your decision for choosing them as your pediatrician?  We plan to vaccinate our daughter, so this is not an issue.

    4.  Updates & Vents  23 weeks today.  It's been 16 days on bed rest so far and much, much further to go.  It seems overwhelming at times.  Like many of you, some days are good and some days I have a meltdown (or two or three).  My next ultrasound will be Friday, so hoping for a good report.

  • update to my update  :)

thanks for making me feel not-so-crazy and not-so-alone in this.  I finally fell asleep for 3 whole hours and I woke up feeling much better.  Next time this happens I'll at least know why it's happening... so will DH.  He was really worried leaving me to go to work.  But I feel fine now.

  • 1.  How many hours a day did you used to watch TV? How many now that you're on bed rest?  I used to watch zero TV...now it's kind of just always on for background noise mostly.

    2.  What type of "outdoor critter" do you absolutely hate finding in your house? Any and all!

    3.  Does a doctor's vaccination policy play into your decision for choosing them as your pediatrician?  Not really!  Now I think I need to do some more research on vaccinations...

    4.  Updates & Vents--I had an appointment today and they are having me come in twice a week now, which is fine by me!  I love getting out of the house.  Also, they said that baby's in the 33rd percentile..I wish the baby was bigger especially since it's likely he or she will be coming early :/

  • 1.  How many hours a day did you used to watch TV? How many now that you're on bed rest?
Used to be 1 hr at the most.  Now, as PP, it's almost always on but sometimes it's just Pandora music.  I've gotten into the "24" series and am up to season 3 (we didn't start watching it til the last 2 seasons so lots to catch up on there).  Also, new AMC series "Hell on Wheels", Greys, and then Sat & Sunday it's football and sportscenter all day!

    2.  What type of "outdoor critter" do you absolutely hate finding in your house?
Lizards!  I don't mind them one bit when I'm outside on their turf but the moment I find one in the house I scream like I'm in a bad horror flick.  There is one right now who apparently thinks the fake tree next to the couch is real and has been hanging out there for 2 days - DH keeps promising to take the tree outside but hasn't yet.  I'm going to lose my mind...

    3.  Does a doctor's vaccination policy play into your decision for choosing them as your pediatrician?
I'm torn on the whole vaccination thing - not to say I'm against the published schedule - but I would like to know that a Dr is willing to work with my on my concerns and explain what is what.  I came across one that has a 100% vaccination policy which I thought was kind of, well, harsh.  I'd like to think that whomever we're seeing is going to be flexible to a parent's wishes, even if it has no bearing on my decisions.

    4.  Updates & Vents
Nice, normal OB appointment today.  Discussed the options if baby stays breech, apparently they normally "flip" if they're going to between 32-34 weeks, so I've got about another 10 days before we go ahead and put the c-section on the schedule.  NO way am I opting for the cephalic version method of turning the baby around!!

    Have a great evening everyone.
