So I am totally on the countdown to being a SAHM. But I just realized that I NEVER have been..well not more than disability and baby bonding allowed.
So I was wondering...do you SAHM's have a schedule with your LO? Do you just maintain housework and laundry? Do You schedule special playtime? What activities do you do with a 20 month old? (Cooper is in school from 815 til 215) Now keep in mind that my OCD will not let my house get trashed. I currently do not go to bed without the dishes done, laundry done and house picked up enough to run the vaccum daily. So about midnight I settle in for bed. I would like to work on getting more sleep.
I started thinking about what I could do and thought I was crazy for wondering because I am home on the weekends...but I figured that my current days off are cram packed with soccer, shopping, housework and general planning for the upcoming work week.
I need a lesson.....help!
TIA
Re: SAHM's...Do You Have A Schedule?
we don't have a schedule so much as a rhythm - so if I were to add in the school run you have, it would look something like this:
wake up
breakfast with daddy (we do family breakfast every morning)
shower
school run
park/playdates/toddler yoga/other errands - library, story time, post office - I try to get all of this done before lunch
lunch/nap (sometimes he falls asleep in the car. If he doesn't, then we have lunch and some play time and then nap.)
while he's asleep I do the dishes (no dishwasher) and fold laundry and general clean up, email, etc
awake from nap
school run
snack time
some kind of activity - we make play dough, we build with blocks, we color - just whatever we're in the mood for.
dinner prep
daddy home
dinner
bath
bed
My suggestion is to have some guided activities for the first week or two and a general idea of what you need to get done when - we do meal plan and shopping lists on thursday and grocery shopping friday morning, for example - thne you can see what your natural rhythms are and have a better flow.
Good luck!
That is a great schedule. I may have to just print that and smack that baby on the fridge! Thanks for your input.
I've been SAH during maternity leave and my schedule goes something like this:
Wake up
Breakfast/get ready for the day
Drop off DD at school at 9 am.
(DS goes to daycare M, R, F so I drop him off on those days and do my errands those days.)
Mon and Thurs after drop off of 2 of my kids I go running on the trail with baby in jogger and then hit grocery store or costco.
Tues I do stroller strides with 2 of my kids. When I have my 2 year old I go to the park, library or go to playdates. Sometimes I can manage one errand with 2yo and baby.
Lunch
Nap for 2yo.
Pick up DD at 2:15
Let the kids play on school playground, sometimes go on a playdate.
Home, get homework done, take dog for walk around neighborhood, play.
Dinner
Play
Bath/books/bed.
I should add that he "helps" with a lot of things - he can sort sock with almost 90% accuracy and he helps stir if it needs to happen during food prep - and dump ingredients, MAN does he like to dump. He "helps" with the dishes - mostly putting away since his dishes are at his level on an open shelf.
And I set up a water station so that he can get himself water if he's thirsty. The more autonomy you allow them to have during the day, the happier they'll be to give you breaks if you need to make a phone call or you want to pee in peace or something.
Our daily schedule goes a little something like this:
Wake up, get dressed, eat breakfast & ready for school
School drop-off
{Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri: I have 'free' mornings which is basically time for me to run errands, clean, do household chores, etc. Wednesdays I volunteer in the school library and usually come home after that}
School pick-up and head home for lunch, homework and down time.
Afternoons are usually spent going from one activity to the next: play outside, crafts, more 'homework' (usually just use the homework as games to change it up) or a play date if the boys are in the mood
Dinner gets started around 5-5:30pm...eat, then bath, & bedtime routine goes from 7-8pm.
school day (tu/Th)
wake up, breakfast, get dressed/lunches packed. I stay in Jammies with my little one, we have a carpool for school. Usually I put the younger one down for a nap and do a workout DVD. Take a shower etc. snack, school pick up, activitity, naps, snack, get dinner started, bath/bed etc.
On the days we don't have to be anywhere (M/W/F) we take it easy. Sometimes I drag them to the gym, or we pack it up and go to the park. Its a basic schedule. wake up, breakfast, short AM nap for younger son, snack, get out of the house either park/story time/playdate/whatever, lunch, naps, snack, playtime, dinner, bath and bed.
What a neat idea! May I ask what your water station looks like?
There's a not very good picture here (you get the gist of it, though)

It's inspired by this:

I also use Simple Mom's printables (well, I've printed them out and laminated a few of them - I'll probably use them when we have an actual schedule with school and work and whatnot.)
