I thought I'd start a new thread with just our ball/firefighter conversation.

Our auxiliary is for union member's wives only.  I think quite a few are like that if they are through the IAFF.  Anyway, at the ball last year, we had a nice meal, drank lots of "free" drinks (the union and auxiliary paid for the whole thing, so we did a lot of fund-raising for it.  The whole FD was invited, though, as well as the PD.), and danced the night away.  It was awesome.  I'll sneak you guys in.  :D

Re: jaredswife

  • We dont have a union here.....maybe that is why.  In some ways it could be great for the dept, but in others it wouldnt.  I think most people want to completely avoid becoming a union.

But it does sound like a great time.

  • The union causes a lot of division in our department.  I think we are like 60% union.  There is a lot of good potential to having a union, but if not everybody is on board it can just cause issues.  My dad is also a firefighter and his dept. is something like 95% union, so it's a non-issue.

  • Our PD is union, but the FD refuses.  They act like it will just shift where the money goes.  They will make more but it will pay union dues and there will be alot more restrictions on them.

Oh well, it doesnt really matter to me.

How are you guys doing?  How is Nora?  I love the new pic.

  • DH pays $20 a pay period for union dues.  That's all he pays for it, though.  He's not huge in the union, but the potential to need them in a pinch keeps us in it.  (If a citizen sues a union member for something that happened on a fire or EMS call, the union pays for a lawyer.  They will also pay for temp. housing in the event that we would lose our house).

Nora is good.  She's being a moody 2-year old lately, though.  Today was bad.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better, especially since DH is on duty.  My step-grandpa's 70th bday party is tomorrow (as well as church), so maybe keeping her busy will limit the melt-downs.  Let's hope, anyway.  My sig. pic. was from her birthday party.  We gave her the Barbie Jeep and it was a huge hit.  ALL the kids took turns riding and driving it.  She's not a huge fan of it right now, but I guessed that it would probably be a little bit "old" for her.  I got it on Craigslist for $40, so I figured that it could sit in the garage until she got excited about it again for that amount.  It has a light bar and siren on it, though, and she loves going over to it and making that go off--just like Daddy!
  • That extra insurance just in case would be nice.  But, oh well.  DH is happy with his dept, so I am too.

Wow, that is a great deal.  And she will grow to love it, I am sure.  Is she talking a ton?

I understand the moodiness.  Maddox has just started throwing fits about little things.  It drives me insane, especially when Dh is on shift!!!  But, his are mild and easily ended, usually.  I am loving this stage though, it is so much fun!
