I have a great-uncle Harlan, but I've always thought the name would be super cute on a girl. Then again I'm one of those hated people on these boards who thinks traditionally boy names are cute on girls. Anyway, I like it.
I do not like Harlan for a first name, especially on a girl. It's way too masculine-sounding.

lol yes I'm sure I would be one of those hated people also.
I don't really like it for a boy but I think it's truly awful for a girl.
I didn't ask if you liked it....
Ok, fine, I'll clarify my answer:
I think it would be super weird for a girl to have such a truly awful name. It wouldn't be weird for a boy, it's just not something I would ever name my son.
That better?

It would be super gross for a girl, not to mention Harlan is very close to Harlot. If I saw a little girl with this name in my classroom, I would totally judge the parents.
Also, who are these people who think Harlan is a female name? I wouldn't go to them to discuss name matters anymore, because this name is obviously male.

I don't think it's any better. I'm still sensing some negative opinion about the name. Sorry, try again!

It happens. Think along the lines of "What were they thinking? These people are probably idiots." Cut to parent-teacher conferences and the like and, the judgment/suspicions are more often than not spot on.
ETA: What's cruddy is that the children are normally wonderful, but they have to suffer with their parents' crappy name choice for the rest of their life.
I wouldn't use it for a girl because I can hear 'Harlan the Harlot' as a taunt. I know kids can find something to pick on regardless of how "perfect" the name we pick is - but I can't hear Harlan for a girl w/o thinking harlot. (Sorry to any moms of beautiful innocent little girls named Harlan out there!)
I know one Harlan and it's a boy so I think boy. I don't like boy names for girls, so yes, I'd think it was weird but I think I'm in the minority of not liking "unisex" names on girls.
"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."
I think it's great for a boy,but yes,would be weird on a girl.

Bwa-ha-ha!
I don't like the name for either gender. But, if you prefer, I can pretend to love it for both (like I would IRL).

ITA. There is nothing even remotely attractive about that name on a girl.
Yes.
Who are those "many"? It's a boys name.

Hmmm.
I instinctively do not like boy names used as girl names, but if you must, then this isn't the worst choice.
