TLC scared me

So today was the first time I actually turned on TLC and watched one of those baby story shows and now I feel like Indifferent.
The lady giving birth had a transverse baby and they had to try and flip the baby... OMG does that look so freaking painful! The girl cried and screamed and I felt like doing the same thing. It looks so horrible! IDK what position this baby is in, but boy do I hope its head down when the time comes!

Re: TLC scared me

  • My doctor actually just talked to me about an external version.  She told me that she really doesn't like to do them and her success rate is about 50%.  They are painful from what I hear and since they don't always work, I most likely would just opt for a c-section if this little guy turns before birth.

This.  TLC likes to show dramatic situations, but I would wager that most doctors wouldn't try to turn transverse babies and would just go for a c-section.

Same here. Mine said it's not even really worth it to try. Besides which, I've never heard of a doctor attempting it while the mother is in labor- usually they are around 36w if they are done.

  • Here in NZ it is common to deliver transverse babies vaginally. OBs are trained to use forceps to do this however many women don't use forceps and delivery baby just fine. It takes longer and is much more uncomfortable but not a reason to schedule a c/s especially as so many babies turn the right way on their own during labour.

  • I don't watch TLC for the fact that they show the most dramatic deliveries possible.

  • One of my baby books said not to watch pregnancy and birth shows like the ones on TLC because they sensationalize so much. It said they cause more stress and the situations are not common, so if I watch I try to not get too worried, haha.

  • wwwwwwhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyy......

stay away from TLC. Don't watch that crap right now, it'll just freak you out. I swear they pratically script these labors. it's all dramatized and watered down. you're probably better off watching home births on youtube.

  • They gave her the option of C-section but she really didnt want one and told her it might not work and then I guess it did work and the baby stayed. Either way... It looked just plan old horrible! And I dont think I want to go thru that!
