Trouble TTC

Insurance Question?

My insurance does not cover infertiltity treatments at all. I would like to get an insurance infertility policy on the side if that is possible. For example, I have a cancer policy through AFLAC. Basically, my question is could I get an infertility policy through any insurance company? I am so lost with all of this insurance crap. Thanks in advance for your help

Re: Insurance Question?

  • I've never heard of just an infertility policy. The problem is this: the theory behind insurance is basically a betting game- you pay a company to cover your costs IN CASE something happens, but most of the time it won't. So you pay AFLAC to cover your cancer bills IN CASE you get cancer, but the chances probably aren't great that you'll get it. Most people would not be seeking IF coverage until they are diagnosed with IF. So there's really no gain for an insurance company to just offer that policy.

You could try to find a provider who offers a shared risk program, where you pay up front for 3 cycles or so and they provide you treatment until it's successful or refund you if it's not and you choose to stop after 3. That's probably your best bet if it's an option.
