For those of you who live in cold climates, what are you doing for outerwear? Care to share a link? I've been looking for some kind of fleece bunting or something that would be warm enough, but not crazy squishy (re: car-seat safety & comfort). Also, LO is part of the long-kids club, so a couple of the 12-month buntings I've tried on him have been too short (or I know they will be too small by the time winter is half-way over).
Ideas?
Re: winter outerwear
Buntings are a waste, IMO.
I bought DD a fleece jacket, but I also have a BundleMe for the car seat. BundleMe's technically are not safe for the car seat (did you know that??) and so I cut out the inside part of it (the part that is BEHIND the baby)
I also like the "poncho" type things she has linked on that post.
Wow! I didn't know this, thanks for sharing the article!
OP, I was wondering the same thing, how to keep LO warm because I've heard/read they are not supposed to be in anything thick while in the car seat so I just dress him in a long sleeve onesie and a hoody or fleece jacket and I put either a feelce blanket or the bundleme over him. That works fine if he never leaves the car seat, what if we go to and from the car w/o the car seat? I don't want to be carrying the car seat in the dead of winter with a 18-20lbs baby in it! :S
My Blog: Naturally Mindful
I bought a fleece suit, but more for walks/stroller use.

I thought I would just add a hoodie/hat for car seat, and tuck a blanket around him, but now that it seems to be like 2 degrees C outside, I'm wondering if I should buy him an actual jacket (like a pea coat?) That would be ok for the carseat because its not puffy right?
My DS is 3 y/o and he never wears a coat while he's actually in the seat. We wear the coat out to the car, and when I'm buckling him in we slip his arms out and then he covers the front of his body with the coat. I'd imagine you can do the same thing with your LO. Personally, I'm content to haul the carrier in the snow vs. the baby in the snow.
Really, any coats at all are technically a no-go for the seat. Check out the link I posted above and you can see why. The straps aren't tight enough. Same goes for when they get bigger (like my DS, who is 3)
Hmmm, I had seen a video on the subject and the lady used a puffy coat as an example. Back to the blanket I guess. I think we'll be switching to a convertible in the next month because B is starting to cry when we put him in the infant seat now - I think he's cramped. If I can find one of those covers that does both seats, in canada....
I'm personally only comfortable with a fleece/sweatshirt on either of my kids while in the car seat. Otherwise, we wear coats out to the car, and then take them off once he's in the seat like I described above.
I've seen too many crash tests where the straps were not fastened properly because of a thick coat/jacket/blanket. Scary stuff.
Here's a good Youtube on the subject. There are tons out there, too.
I love Molehill. Their one piece suits are long in the body and come in fleece. They have a 9-18 month size that would probably work for the whole winter.
