Parenting after a Loss

Does your baby use a walker? ETA: he figured it out

My mom got little dude one.  He just stands there and goes backwards!  I wasn't planning on getting one, and now feel obligated to use it, but I'm not quite sure how it will be useful in my daily game plan.  We only use it downstairs and I'm quite well aware of the dangers of stairs.

ETA: Within a few minutes, he's now all over the place.  Now I am really confused as to how it's supposed to make my life easier.  He is EVERYwhere!

She doesn't, but that's only because we have stairs down to the basement. And an idiotic and large dog who is obsessed with licking her (I may have mentioned the dog before?)

I think walkers are fine, as long as the adults in charge use common sense. I know that a great many adults do not use common sense, and that's why things like this get outlawed, but really. If you live in a ranch-style house or have no stairs leading down on the level you are using the walker on/have the stairs well gated....I don't see why you can't use one.

DH works in our basement office, so we both know the chance of the door being open for a second is too great, and even with a gate it makes us nervous. But that's OUR comfort level.

Yes, I personally couldn't use it in your situation either.  I guess it's forcing me to really see things from his height ahead of time so I can work on better childproofing.  He's sitting here quite content right now, so maybe it's not so bad.  he can't move much on the carpet so I'm hoping I can now get some things done!

  • We opted for the jumperoo over the walker.  I had been told by many people that they will make your child learn to walk bow-legged.  Our ped assured me that it isn't true, but by that time we had already bought the jumperoo.

  • We do. She only went backward for the longest time. Now she likes to chase the big kids. It wont go from tile to carpet. It wont move on the carpet at all. We do have stairs but they only go up. She is confined to the kitchen, and only likes it small doses.

  • C loves his.  We have the Jeep Renegade one and it has a steering wheel and a horn and a key that turns are goes "vroom."  We have a ranch style house and he is always supervised.

It really is amazing how fast they get those things going and how they can manuever through doorways and such.
